What a truly magical family film! I loved this film its every childs wildest dream! I wish they had made films like this when I was little! There is a fantastic storyline. Four children are sent to the countryside to be educated, they are staying in a large country mansion and playing hide in seek one day, Lucy the youngest of the four children hides in a wardrobe in one of the rooms. She steps inside and suddenly moves backwards only to find herself in Narnia! Narnia is, at the time a snow dusted landscape, beautiful and mysterious! Lucy is eventually joined by her three other siblings, where they discover that Narnia is ruled by a lion Aslan and overlooking is the big bad white witch how wants to rule Narnia in a dark way. The family along with Aslan and many other wierd and wonderful creatures have to defend Narnia from the rule and take over from the white witch!
The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is an adventure game for the Nintendo DS. The game is based on the book by CS Lewis. You can play this adventure by playing one of the four different characters, Lucy, Peter, Edmond or Susan. Initially you play the characters one by one, but then you're able to control them all together. The game play is effectively a RPG, so you explore the world in the game whilst fighting enemies and finding new areas. The game is easy to get into and start playing, but there are some frustrating times when controlling the characters isn't that easy. Sometime the game just slows down too much, and during fighting scenes, controlling your character can be cumbersome and difficult. Graphics wise the game is very good, with well presented images throughout. There are also video clips throughout the game, with both additional music and audio soundtrack added. The DS seems to struggle with the graphics at times however, so the programmers may have gone too far in terms of the capabilities of the console. The audio soundtrack is very good, and with the graphics, this does add heavily to the atmosphere in the game. The sound effects in the game however are not as good and I found these more irritating as I was playing the game as they were getting just too repetitive. In terms of the difficulty level, I found the game just too difficult, although I am not the best of games players. Some of the challenges were just a little bit too difficult to get through and it's not always clear what you're supposed to be doing in the game. There is also a multi player mode for up to four where you can play up to four different characters at the same time by using the Nintendo DS's wireless facility. This additional mode of playing does add extra game play to the game and is a useful addition. The game is currently available new on Amazon for 7.99 pounds, but can be found much cheaper second-hand on sites such as eBay and Amazon if you prefer for just a few pounds. The game is rated 7+, so is suitable for most children, just not the youngest children. The game might be just a bit too difficult for younger children however, as it can be quite challenging. Overall, I enjoyed playing this game. However, I found the fighting elements of the game to be just too frequent, often having to replay parts of the game again and again. Given that the fighting elements of the game are quite clumsy in terms of playing, this limited the game's length for me and I never completed it. However if you can pick the game up for just a few pounds, there's still a good amount of game play to be had, but I didn't find this to be a classic adventure game by any means.
I don't own this game myself however a relative asked if I could assist her with it. She had received the game as a gift but she was finding it very difficult and hoped I could help her. I don't have too much faith in DS games as several that I have tried playing on have had problems, be it due to voice recognition or freezing mid game etc, but I thought I would give this one a chance. In my opinion this is the worst DS game I have ever played, in fact it may even be the worst game that I have ever played on any games console. It is hard to control the characters and it always seemed as if you were looking upon your player at a strange angle. This made it hard to control them at all and it quickly annoyed me. The style of the game did not seem to work with a Nintendo DS; the buttons weren't sufficient for the actions to be performed. I would suggest that you avoid purchasing this game as I can't imagine that anyone would particularly enjoy playing it. The tasks are confusing and the whole game aggravating.
