      Great fun

      I was so glad when they re-made this classic PC game for the DS as I think it was made for this arena. This is fiendishly addictive and really, really fun. The premise is that you have to build your very own Alton Towers, simple you'd think, but there is a lot more to it.

      Starting with very little money (and imagination) you basically buy a peice of land with a wall all the way around it and a set of entrance gates. This is your theme park - grass, grass and more grass. So you fill it with 'attractions', so that you can make money from the bus load of people that hopefully turn up each day.

      When you first turn up you are limited to some very very basic rides/shops, such as a bouncy castle and gift shop, as well as basic constructions such as paths, roped off queing areas, trees and entertainers (blokes dressed as clowns/sharks). Your job is to arrange them (in a pleasing way) so that you get higher numbers of people coming through your gates, as well as charging them the Earth to get in! you also need to be careful that you don't put stomach churning thrill rides next burger shops - otherwise your visitors turn green and leave you a 'present' on the pavement! there's loads of things that you have to think about - even people getting lost!

      You are in control of everything in this game - from how much money you spend on research (to get new, more exciting rides/shops/entertainers), to the ticket prices (charge the Earth and no-one will come, but too low and you won't make any money at all), to negotiating with your staff about pay rises (do the deal or they walk out). It's very, very clever. The whole point is to make your visitors happy, and thus spend more money.

      Once you have one successful park you can then sell it and start again in a different country. Some countries are obviously more difficult to succeed in than others, but this is the challenge.

      build your own park,control the prices, fees and employees

      I remember watching my bother playing this on the PC and have recently found out this was released on the PC in1994 which I never realised because I was born in 1992 but I can remember seeing my bother playing this. I think a similar game to this came out on the play station as well. This is a re-release of the PC version but on Nintendo DS. The objective of the game is really simple you are given a patch of land in which to start building your park on, as you level up you unlock new rides and better facilities for your customers. Once you earn more money and your park gets to a certain level you unlock new locations for parks around the world, different countries have a different layout and different rides.

      On the opening scene you have an option to choose your username, this will automatically already be whatever your name is on your DS however you can change it, you can also set your birthday, gender and enter a message so when people see you your message will be there too example "welcome to my theme park" You are them taken to the page where you can set the levels you want to play at. There are 3 different levels that you can play at, sandbox, Sim and full. Sandbox is the easiest level there is, Sim is where you have a few more responsibilities where you control the people you employ's wages. Full is where you have to control everything from the rides, management, payroll and more. I always play on sandbox just because I want to make the parks only. On this page you can also choose the name of your park, mine is called "Legendvile park" you can also choose easy,medium and hard. You can also choose to have a tutorial before the game. On the next page you choose 1 of 4 guides to help you through the game, these advise you on whether to put the price lower or higher on your tickets and food or whether to add another ride or not,if you do follow these sometimes they are very helpful, if you choose the right one of course.

      The tutorial shows you step by step how to place paths for people to walk, paths to que up on and how to place rides and food stalls in the appropriate place to earn the most amount of money. This is only several minutes and is enough to get you started so it is worth checking this out if you haven't played this game before. when you get your patch of land there is a wall all round it with gates and a sign at the front in the middle, outside there is a bus stop and as you put more things in your park you will attract more visitors as you have more to offer. On the top screen there is a birds eye view of your theme park in simple line form, on this you will see the space you have and what the bus is coming as a little blue rectangle will go across the bottom of it.

      Along the bottom of the screen are your tools to make a theme park you first have the paths option, you have a road and a cue line in this option, firstly you need to create paths along your theme park so your customers can get from one ride to the next and you need the cue lines going from the path to the steps of the ride your next option is the ride option you start off with only 4 rides every year that passes you get new rides added to your list, each day of the year is a second, so it each year is only a couple of minutes so time goes by really fast and before you know it you can get roller coaster rides. The next option is food you start off with 5 options, which are a mixture between food, drink and game stalls you place these between your rides so customers will go to these after every ride to earn you more money, the more you have of these the better and of course as the years pass and you get more money more options become available. You also have a nature options which has trees and plants, path signs, ride signs, toilets, and ponds.

      The last main option that you will use is characters you will employ, you have a number on entertainers which you put on the paths, near rides and food stalls to keep people from being bored and unhappy in your park each entertainer is different and some can entertain better than others, you can employ the same one more than twice because after all it's just a person in a costume so there is no limit. There is 3 very important people that you need to employ and your park will not function properly without these one of them is "handyman" when people eat at your food stalls they walk off and throw the rubbish on the floor, and when you have 1000 people in your park that's 1000 pieces of rubbish at every food stall,t he handy men go round and pick up the rubbish, another is "mechanic" your rides can go a few times before becoming damaged, you need at least one mechanic per ride so that you always have one free if 3+ break at the same time then you can sort the situation out properly, you simply click on the person and then the ride that has smoke coming out of it then they will do all the work. The last one is guards, if you don't want any fights then I suggest putting a guard in the park every so often.

      You also have a management setting option a lot of the options on this are for the full version mode, here you can change the ticket price, do research into brand new rides, warehouse for your food stocks but the one you will need to use is visitors. This is statistics, they are based on a pie chart and then explained underneath, this will tell you who is unhappy, angry, happy, who is thirsty, who thinks there's to much litter or not enough rides and more this is shown in percentage and you need to try and keep as many people happy as possible so you continue to get visitors into your park. The last option is so you can save it, give up, the map, music and the speed, the speed is funny as you can slow it right down or speed it right up and you see all the people running around really fast.

      The game is very bright and colourful, the graphics aren't the worst but not much different to the original PC game. the grass doesn't look very realistic but is just alight green background with bits of darker green in it to make it look like grass, the rides do have good details on them, you can tell what they are and it is very clear to see. The people on there are more like litter blobs with several colours on to look like clothes this is really simply but it works with the game well, the one annoying thing about the graphics on this game is that the visitors for no reason sometimes go off the path and decide to go get themselves stuck on nothing or between your rides so you find yourself having to sell a ride of park of your rides and this happens one to many times every time you play.

      There is a set tune all the way through this which is quite comical, funky and up beat, which I don't mind having the sound on while playing such as the rides going around, you can only hear the rides when you go near the ride so you don't get them all at once, if it's the roller coaster you can hear it on the tracks and people screaming with joy, you hear when people drop the rubbish, people coughing and the most annoying this is children crying, if your visitors are not happy the will cry and moan and this gets very irritating to listen to so I end up starting again or just turning the sound off.

      This game is for ages 3+ I don't think a child of that age would be able to play and understand this game however the navigation around this game is very easy and simple and in set categories which does make it very easy to build certain things, the music is bearable but some of the sound effects like the crying is not, I suppose this is on there to notify you that a lot of people in your park are unhappy but it is just to annoying to listen to,if you have employ around 10 handymen to attempt to clean up the rubbish,it is annoying that there isn't any bins on this game as it would make it a lot easier because most of the rubbish would be there instead of the floor, The rides break all the time and you constantly have to replace them because they're getting to old, this is what it is like in a real life theme park but when it happens all at once is it to frustrating for me to care about when I'm playing so I get annoyed and start again.

      You get to change the admission fee and control the prices of your food and drink you can also control the amount of ice, salt and sugar in the foods, depending on the weather I have full ice in my drinks, and 1 if it rains, it's best to put your drink prices and ice cream up on a sunny day as they are more likely to buy them more then. Despite this being a little frustrating at times this is a very addictive game and you'll find you've been playing it for hours and you haven't realised how long it has been. It is very satisfying when your park reaches a certain value and you can move on to a different country and try out the new foods rides and customers.

      This game could of been improved a lot since the PC game, such as the people getting stuck on nothing making you having to sell your items to get them out. Also when you change country a lot of the rides are the same and it would be better if they completely changed it and the food and characters but instead it is mainly the same, despite this it is a great game for children and adults as I do enjoy playing this.

        Tycoon game

        When I saw that Theme Park was available to play on the DS, I simply had to buy it. This was because the game transports me back to my childhood - I whiled away many an hour in front of my PC playing this game. I had two questions that needed answering: 1) how would the game transfer on to the DS, with it's smaller screen size and more restricted controls and 2)how would it live up to my fond memories, was it really that good?

        THE IDEA BEHIND THE GAME

        The idea of the game is that you buy a plot of land and you need to build up a theme park on it. It's a tycoon management type game. You start with very little money and have to buy basic rides and shops for your land. As you make money from admission fees and the shops and food outlets, you can buy better shops, restaurants, rides and amenities. You can also invest money into development so that people come up with ideas for new rides and restaurants for you.

        Whilst your park is in operation, you have to ensure that people keep coming by making sure the admission prices are correct, that stock levels in shops and restaurants are maintained, resolve staff disputes and contend with 'bullies' in the park - phew!

        If successful and you make a lot of money, you are then able to buy a better plot of land in another country and start the process again - usually contending with a different terrain.

        PLAYING THE GAME

        Playing the game on the DS involves using the stylus to select from the many menus. The controls are therefore really simple and it's relatively easy to pick up. However, I find the number of menus to select from before you get anywhere quite tedious. I'm not sure if this is just the DS version, or the game itself as my memory is a little hazy! It does feel like you have to go around the houses a bit to get anywhere though.

        I also find the small screen size of the DS quite a hindrance. It means that the rides and shops are not very clear and, when there are bullies in the park to identify, they are really hard to spot. It is also really hard to build rides such as the rollercoaster and water shoot as you need to design the course. I found that trying to navigate round the screen doing this was really hard and often broke the track, very frustrating.

        It was good to see, however, that many of the things that I loved the game for remained. I love the business side of the game - gauging ticket prices, restaurant costs and shop charges. I also like the aspect of managing finances so that you can invest in new ideas. Building the park itself is also fun, but challenging on the small screen.

        OVERALL OPINION

        I love the idea of the game and all the thought that has so obviously gone in to it. However, I am not sure that you get the full experience on the DS due to the screen size. That aside, the game has really good feature and it is easily played for hours on end (highly addictive!). You also get to use your creative side by designing your own park and I also enjoy the fact that no two games will be the same.

        The game is good if you like tycoon style games and enjoy a challenge. I have played several of these types of games and this one remains a firm favourite of mine. It is currently priced at around £25 online, which I think is a little steep. If you can pick it up a little cheaper than this however, it's worth a try.

          4/5 a great game but it's addictive!

          When I was younger I always used to enjoy games like Rollercoaster and Zoo Tycoon, I loved building a little virtual world where I could make everything how I wanted it and earn money as people visited my attractions. I was in CeX a couple of months ago looking for PS3 games when I spotted Theme Park for Nintendo DS for just £4. Now, being from CeX, the game was second hand, but it was in good condition as the games usually are in there. Online the same game will set you back just under £25 new, which I couldn't really justify paying as I hadn't really heard of the game before and knew that it would probably only be something I used for a few weeks.



          The basic idea of the game is of course, to build a theme park. This includes everything though, from paths to rides to food kiosks. The theme park also needs to be staffed, and the theme park needs to be kept in good condition, rides need to be looked after and new ride ideas need to be developed. The game consists of numerous locations around the world, each with its own set of targets which need to be met. The game starts easily with a theme park in Great Britain; it's quite an easy level but gets you used to the game which is good. When the first theme park is completed there are a few different locations you can move onto as I said before each with different targets and economies.

          One of the things I really enjoy about this game is just how many options there are whilst playing. Of course there's the general premise that you gradually build up your rides and food stalls, working your way up and watching your money grow. Whilst playing though there are so many different things you can change. For example of the Hook a Duck stall you can change how much the prize costs you, how much the game is to play and the percentage chance of players winning. All the different varieties lead to different outcomes which change your visitor's happiness. There are so many different elements to game which make for many hours of enjoyment.

          A great feature which really makes the most of the Nintendo DS is the way the screens are used; the top screen is an overall map of the park which the bottom is a closer up view which can be navigated easily with the buttons. The stylus does most of the work when it comes to selecting and changing things on the bottom screen. I have to say that the actual graphics of the game aren't the best, they seem a little old fashioned to me, I know that Theme Park was previously a PC game but I would have thought they would have updated it a bit for the DS version.



          Initially I thought that Theme Park would be a game more suitable for children however I think it can be enjoyed by anyone. The game is intended for anyone above the age of 3, and the game could be played by a child of this age, however I think to get full idea of the game I think you'd have to be a bit older. Having said that though there's so many different elements to the game that I think many adults would be shocked by how much they'd enjoy this game if they give it a go. An expensive buy if new, but it can be picked up second hand for a great price.

            A classic game that has aged well.

            My son, who is 11, really enjoys management-style sim games, such as Zoo Tycoon or Jurassic Park Operation Genesis. These games require you to build a park from scratch and then manage various aspects of the park, any thing from enclosure sizes, to admission prices or even the type of refreshments to serve at the kiosks. The aim of these games is to create a successful attraction that makes money and continues to grow and improve.

            When I saw this Theme park game for DS, I knew that he would love it, as it is a great example of the type of game that he enjoys playing. We actually owned the same game on PC about 10 years ago, but unfortunately, when we updated to a new computer, the game wouldn't work, so I had to get rid of it. It was a really popular game for PC when it came out and I was very interested to see how the game would translate to the DS format and whether it would have changed much over the years.

            I was pleased to find that the game was virtually identical to its predecessor, and the gameplay and graphics style had not changed at all.

            You start the game with a blank plot of land and a modest amount of money, which you must use wisely to create a good theme park. There are many different objects that you can place in your theme park, all costing different amounts of money. Each object you place in the park has a direct bearing on the popularity of the park. Big thrill rides, such as rollercoasters, are expensive initially, but will make your park popular, smaller rides are cheaper to buy, but tend to break down a lot and won't draw a lot of customers. You can build the bigger attractions yourself by laying pieces of track down to make as big or as small a ride as you wish. If you get the rollercoaster angles wrong, the cars will fall off the track, which is actually quite funny, but not really advised!

            As well as the rides, there are many more considerations to take into account. You park will need facilities such as toilets, and you can go for the really basic type (yuk) or the super duper loos! Refreshment kiosks and shops will bring in extra money, but will only do well if you choose popular items to sell and make your prices reasonable. You can also control your gate price for entry.

            Another thing that you will need to find money for are your staff. A park with no cleaners will soon get dirty and your customers will leave. When a ride breaks down, you will need a technician to mend it quickly. Each member of staff must be paid out of your available funds so it is really important to balance the books.

            You will also need to place your paths and queues around the park in order to make the best use of the available space.

            You can see how your park visitors are feeling by means of small emoticons by each visitor. Various factors can make the visitors happy or unhappy and it is very important to try and keep them as happy as possible at all times, as this will make your park more popluar.

            If your park does well, you are able to build another park in a different country and thus grow your theme park business into a successful empire.

            Theme park is a clever game which has aged well and the DS format seems to suit it even better than the original PC format as the stylus gives better control to the player and better ability to look around the park, dispatch staff and build attractions. The game would appeal to anyone aged 10 and over and I think it is a very useful game for older children as it teaches them basic principles of money management, and the idea that you can't always have what you want if you don't have the funds to hand! It is a really useful tool for teaching children about how business works and how you can start small and grow as you succeed.

            Above all though, it is a fun game, an if you like these sort of games, Theme Park for DS should definitely deserve a place in your collection. The graphics are colourful and cartoony, the animations and characters are fun, and the gameplay is creative and intuitive. Theme park is a game that will have you tapping away on your DS for hours and wondering where the time went! A new copy of the game is not cheap, they sell for about £25 on Amazon, which I think is a good reflection of the quality of the game. It has good longevity, so in my opinion is worth the money, although another option is buying a used copy, which can be as cheap as £1.99.

            Theme park is a lovely game and one that gets played a lot in our house. Maybe if my son plays it enough times he might grow up to be the manager of a real theme park one day!

              Good for a while

              Basically, if you've played the PS1 version, its exactly the same. I bought this about a year ago for around £6 used. Its around £20 if you want it brand new. But as its a cartridge it cant really get damaged like discs can, so grab a bargain and buy it used.

              I love this game, I loved the old one and as this is the same I love this one aswel. I like how you progress through the game and get more rides and shops as the game goes on. You have to create a theme park. And it has to be successful so you can put the prices up and earn lots of money. You build paths and queues for the rides. You can make your employees better but spending money. And make your rides better so they dont brake quite so easily. You can build ponds, plants, tree's and toilets. As you get better you get more. And then once you've reached your target you sell your park and go on to the next one which will be slightly different.

              The problem I have with this game is, once you've done a few parks, it starts to feel repetitive and all the same. It feels like the same thing is being done over and over again. Obviously you can try new idea's but I always end up doing the same thing and earning lots of money and being as best as I can.

              This game is fun but cant be played for too long in my opinion :)

                Still a classic after all these years.

                I remember being a fan of the old Theme Park game for the PC which I used to play years ago. When I discovered there was a DS version I had to get it!

                If you remember the old version, this one is basically the same with a few minor differences. I love this. It's an old classic game, one that is annoyingly addictive, and is still entertaining now years after it's original release.

                If you are unfamiliar with the game, here is a basic outline. You are challenged with the task of building your own theme park. You have to do everything from creating paths and hiring employees to building exciting rides and sideshows. You have to ensure that your rides stay maintained and do not break down, make sure your shops and restaurants don't run out of stock, and get your development team on the task of upgrading rides and developing more. The aim is to meet the targets set for each location. Some are easier than others.

                When you first start, your first park will be built in Great Britain, which is an easy level. This is to get you into the game. To meet your targets you have to up the parks value by building rides, etc. and getting more customers. Once you have completed Great Britain you open up the option of building parks in a number of other locations each with a different type of terrain (beware, you can't build on rock) and different interest rates, economy statuses, and inflation rates.

                Each time you start a new park you start with a couple of rides, food options and sideshows. Develop more and increase the bank balance and you are able to move up from a small bouncy castle to roller coasters and water rides. In general the rides are the same in each of the locations, but there are a few varieties (which I think is a new feature to the DS game) such as the London tea houses in Great Britain. You won't be going it alone though, you can pick one of 4 advisors to help you on your way (another new DS feature).

                There are loads of things you are able to alter from how much salt you are putting on your fries to how long your rides last, to setting paths for your cleaners. You can barter with the unions over staffing costs and suppliers over costs of the goods you're buying from them. You have to think about things like location... It's not a pretty sight if you put a burger place next to a roller coaster. There really is a lot to this game for you to think about even though it's an old classic.

                Some slightly (only slightly!) more techy stuff... The user interface on this version of the game is really easy to get used to. You use the stylus a lot in this game, as well as the buttons for navigating. The dual screen aspect means you can navigate the park on the bottom screen whilst being able to see the whole park on the top screen (as well as other useful things when you're on different screens such as bartering, etc). The graphics aren't amazing compared to other games out there, but are meant to represent the original graphics in the original game, which it does do pretty well. The sounds are generally theme park sounding noises with a little stereotypical theme park sounding tune in the background. I tend to play my DS with the sound off though, and sound isn't needed to play the game.
                There is a choice of 6 different languages on the version I have, which are basically the most common European languages.

                The age on the box is 3+ (as no violence, sexual references, etc according to the PEGI games ratings), but I would suggest you need to be a bit older in order to understand the game to the full and know what you are doing in regards to the various things that you need to be thinking about throughout the game.

                A definite recommend if you enjoyed the original, or like similar business-ish type games. Currently on Amazon for £18.48, but I got mine cheaper, so have a shop around and enjoy. :-)

                  If you like Theme Park, pick this up. You may want to stick with the PC/Amiga version however.

                  Well i was quite a big fan of the original Theme Park on the PC/Amiga, i played it for several years, and i still own the original disc today.

                  When searching the internet one day, i saw that there was a remake of the game available on the DS. I got my hands on it as soon as i could.

                  Really the game is the same as the original Theme Park, the game has the same graphics, and pretty much the same fundamental gameplay elements. Such as research and ticket prices for rides/entering the park.

                  Some changes were made to the game however. When you start the game, you will be asked to pick an advisor to aid you in running your park, instead of having the same advisor all the time. They will inform you if they think your prices are too high or too low, and also give you the amount they feel would be right. Also there are a couple of new attractions in the DS version i believe, such as the London Bus Tea Room. (it may have replaced an old attraction, haven't played the original in years.)

                  The game did get rated down by some sites for containing bugs, personally i haven't run into any bugs, at least not gameplay altering bugs, since i started playing it a few weeks ago.

                  Apart from the few alterations listed above and a change of the User Interface to make it more DS friendly, the game is practically the same.

                  If you liked the original Theme Park, i don't see any reason why you wouldn't like this, the old Theme Park still feels better somehow, but this is a solid remake nonetheless. So if your a Theme Park fan, i would recommend you pick this game up.

                    Take the classic theme park with you everywhere

                    Do you remember Theme Park for the PC? It was a game where you ran and managed your own theme park. It was released originally back in 1994 on the PC (I have vague memories of buying this in the big cardboard box you used to get PC games in and playing it using floppy disks lol) A couple of years ago Theme Park was re-released for the DS.

                    The idea of the game is really simple. You get given a plot of land on which you have the task of creating a theme park. You are then given certain requirements you need to fulfil before you can move on to a new location, usually making sure your park has a certain value and you have a certain amount of money in your bank. You can create parks in different locations around the world, with different countries having different difficulty levels.

                    When you first see your new park you are given a plot of land which just has an entrance gate and a small path. The terrain of you plot of land does vary depending on the difficulty of the game. Some of the plots of land have lakes and rocks which you need to design your theme park around. Building your park is very simple. You just select which rides, attractions and scenery you want to place and locate them where you wish, at the beginning of the game you are given a brief tutorial explaining how to do this. The game is not that simple however. You have to place your rides and attractions appropriately, for example it's no good placing a burger stand next to a rollercoaster as your customers will end up throwing up all over the place.

                    You get new items for your park through doing research. This costs money each month and is an amount that you can decide on. Having new attractions will mean more people visit your park which in turn means you make more money. You also unlock different attractions by playing the various levels. This is one of the main aspects that makes you move on from the park you have made to a new location. If this aspect wasn't there I would just be tempted to keep one park on the go and make it the best park as returning right back to the beginning and starting a brand new park can get a little repetitive after a while. Most of the rides are not customisable; you just have to place the entrance and exit. You cant even turn your rides around as they all have to face the front of the park, this can be a little annoying at times as you cant see whats happening directly behind the rides. However, there are about four rides in the entire game which you can make such as a big dipper and rollercoaster. The game doesn't allow you to ride the attractions in your theme park which was an aspect of the game I used to love on the PC, going round the haunted house used to be awesome!

                    To help aid you build your theme park you are given an advisor. They will tell you what is going on with your park and inform you of any changes that need to be made. This includes raising your admission price and replacing old rides. It is a good idea to take what they say with a pinch of salt as they are purely out to make you money and don't seem to take in to account the happiness of your guests. For example charging $400 for a burger isn't likely to make your customers happy but will definitely make you rich.

                    Managing your park is one of the more challenging aspects of the game. When you start each park you can choose how involved you are in that management. Sandbox is the easiest where you don't get too involved with the managing side of things and Full is where you literally manage everything including buying and selling on the stock market. I tend to opt for the middle of these two which is Sim this means you get some management opportunities such as negotiating stock and wage prices. This is done by trying to make two hands shake on a percentage increase (or decrease). However, its nothing too complicated.

                    There are a few problems with this game. The first of which is the most annoying. The AI in the game is just stupid. I would guess that in transferring the game to the DS they didn't bother to tweak the original game too much, probably in a bid to make more money. Guests have an annoying habit of getting stuck in places there's no reason for them to get stuck. This happens pretty much constantly particularly when it comes to the few rides you can design yourself. You will then get your advisor constantly telling you that said people are stuck and that you need to help them. Once you have helped them the advisor will continually tell you that you need to place more signposts because people can't find the exit to your park (probably why they are getting stuck, I don't know?). However, I swear you could fill every square inch of your park with signposts and I still don't think the advisor would be happy!

                    The workers you employ aren't much better. Handymen who go around sweeping never seem to actually be in the areas they need to be and end up congregating in one area of the park like a gang of thugs, likewise with the entertainers you hire (a great gang made up of teddy man, shark man, squid man, strong man and rhino man, sounds like they could almost fight crime!). You can also have a ride that needs maintenance and is about to explode and you will have a mechanic sat eating his lunch in front of it. There's nothing you can do about it and it's really frustrating, especially since when a ride explodes not only do you end up with unhappy guests but you also get left with randomly placed rocks on the ground where the ride exploded. You can't get rid of these rocks and it's almost impossible to build anything in the area where the explosion occurred. The stress levels associated with the stupidity of the above is unreal and requires constant saving of the game.

                    The controls of the game aren't the best. When you first play the controls seem very fiddly with lots of small buttons you need to press. However, you do get used to it. The problem is that to select anything you need to circle your choice - you can't just tap it. I guess there is a reasonable explanation behind why you have to do this but personally I just find it irritating. The other problem with this game is that you really do need a steady hand. As you are using your stylus to place attractions, paths, scenery etc it's very easy to go wrong and there is no undo button. This isn't so bad when what you're placing is cheap. However, when you are running out of money and you're trying to build a rollercoaster to bring in the customers a mistake like this can work out to be very costly!

                    The sound used in the game is also really annoying. In fairness this tends to be a problem with a lot of DS games. Not only is it the music that is irritating it's also the sound effects. The sound effects are ok on an irregular occurrence; the problem is that they will keep repeating themselves. If one of your little customers is sick, chances are the rest of the clan will follow. This means you will keep hearing people being sick over and over again. It's the same problem when you have unhappy customers; you get lots of people crying. It's definitely a plan to keep this game firmly on mute.

                    My biggest annoyance with this game is that you can only save one park. Most DS games allow up to three different saves but not this one. This means that you can only ever have one game on the go and you can't have a back up saved game. You can't also go back and look at parks you've already completed. This isn't the worst thing in the world but it would have been a nice touch to be able to view your theme park empire. It also means that other people can't play. My other half keeps asking to play it, but he wants to start from the beginning. I told him to keep his mitts off my game (knowing that he'll get bored after about five minutes of playing) and he'll have to wait until I finish it before he has a go. Finishing the game though could take a long, long time.

                    You can get your hands on Theme Park for around £10.00, which isn't too bad for a DS game. It's difficult to say whether I would recommend it. At the end of the day it's Theme Park which, for me, is an awesome game that takes me back to my childhood. However, now we have games like Rollercoaster Tycoon where you can customise so much more of your park, so if you've never played Theme Park before then this game will probably be a major disappointment and could get quite boring quickly especially with the dodgy aspects to the game that I mentioned above. However, for me this is a classic game and that's why even with all the annoying aspects I still love it.

                      I got Theme Park for the DS just as a bit of fun if I'm honest. I used to have a go on this years ago when the kids had it on the PC, and I thought it would be fun to see what the game is like now it's been re-released for the DS. I paid about £7 for a copy off ebay, but you can get this brand new for between £10 and £15 from all the usual game sellers. Search around to get the best price as promotions are always changing with things like this.

                      Getting started with this game was easy, though I was initially a bit thrown at being asked to choose an advisor. There doesn't seem to be much difference between which advisor you choose, other than how they appear on screen and the vocabulary they use to give you advice. I'm not entirely sure what the point of this option is if I'm honest!

                      Playing the game is easy and I was amazed to find that the game is almost exactly the same as it was when I first played it over fifteen years ago!! They haven't even bothered to update the graphics! The idea of the game is that you build and run a successful theme park. You do this by building rides and stalls, employing staff, adding facilities and scenery, and by dealing with research and financial issues (depending on whether you play the full game or in sim or sandbox mode).

                      Actually playing the game is nice and easy, though there are a few annoying quirks that exist from when this game was first released - and it's a shame that no-one bothered to remove them before releasing this as a DS game! On the original game, I often found that visitors to my park got stuck behind the clown show ride, and this still happens on the DS version. There's no reason why this should happen to be honest, it's a glitch in the game in my opinion.

                      I also hate being interrupted when I'm trying to build or sort out a financial issue to go and negotiate a new staff or stock deal. These are really hard to deal with as they rely on you being extremely precise with the stylus to get a decent deal. One slip of the hand and you've upped your stock prices or staff wages by 30%.

                      One thing they've taken away, which I loved the option of on the original version, is the opportunity to sell the park at the end of each financial year. You do this so that you can go onto building your next theme park, usually under progressively more difficult circumstances. But this game just tells you when it's time to sell up and change, taking away that choice from you. To complete the whole game you have to build and sell a successful theme park in each worldwide location, as shown on the game main menu map. Having to wait for the computer to decide that I can sell each park means that this takes an awfully long time!

                      This is a fun little game that youngish kids may enjoy, but it definitely has a lot of limitations and annoying glitches that should have been ironed out before it was released. Very young kids will enjoy the cute graphics and fun music, but not really understand the rules of the game well enough to get very far. Older kids and teenagers will understand the rules but eventually start to question their logic, or rather the lack of it. Worth £5 off ebay I think but I'd feel cheated if I paid more than a tenner for this.

                        Very addictive game

                        In this EA game you build your own theme parks and make money from theme park goers. This Nintendo DS version is a re-make of the 1994 version and is very very similar indeed. The game was released in 2007 and probably brought back alot of memories for people. It certainly did for me. I remember playing this on the Playstation when it first came out and was very addicted to it then. When I think I have got rid of my addiction, they bring it out on the Nintendo DS for me to get addicted to again.


                        This game is very time consuming indeed, not to say that thats a bad thing, but once you start playing it you cant put it down. I can play for about 4-5 hours per sitting sometimes.


                        In this game you start off with an empty field and you turn it into a theme park by adding: pathways, food stores, drink stores and of course rides. You even employee staff such as handymen, mechanics, entertainers and even a guard. You get to name your park as you wish as well which makes the park feel more real and definately more personal.


                        Some of the stores you can buy are: coffee shop, whippy ice cream, balloon world, big time fries, pokey cola, duck shoot, big time burger, novelty shop, saloon, gun shoot, danke frankfurt, toy land, tin can alley and coconut shy. Some of the rides include: monorail, bouncy castle, snakes and ladders, tree house, rubber tubing, merry go round, planet rocket, maze, roller coaster, clown acts, super spinner, observatory, parasol chairs, ghost house and car ride. Most of these shops and rides are definately recognisable from the origional version and some are brand new or have been altered.


                        Once you have built your theme park and are successful with it, you get the chance to ungrade to a newer theme park and the pattern begins. As you are buiding and getting on with your theme park (when not playing the tutorial game) you get to invest in research and other aspects of the park and reveal new rides.


                        This game definately is worth hours of play time and there seems to be something new to build or something to replace as you are going along. Definately must try if you have never done so before. But beware, dont do so if you are already a very busy person.

                          For those who loved the original, you'll love this!

                          Ok, so I'm incredibly biased about this game (but I'll try to be fair with my rating!). I spent many an hour playing the original PC version of this game back in my younger days. So when I heard it was available for the DS, I had to resist jumping up and down for joy! (Not the best image for a 28 year old pregnant lady to portray!)

                          Theme Park is one of the original theme park simulation and management games - well before Roller Coaster Tycoon or Theme Park World. It's great to see that it's been given the opportunity to be shown to a new generation.

                          The designers have been absolutely loyal to the original look and feel of the game. Yes, the graphics are a bit blocky, yes, they're not realistic, and no, you can't ride the rides. But the comedic value of the ride and shop designs, and the poor little people throwing up after smelling burgers the minute they come of the roller coaster (ooops, did I forget to put out toilet blocks for them again?!), not to mention the entertainers dressed in absurd costumes who seem to be being completely ignored by the visitors...it's just a wonderful mash of fun!

                          The game play itself is relatively simple. You get to choose an advisor who helps you along the way (I'm a bit concerned about the price they want to charge for a soft drink though! Money grabbers!) and by listening to their advice and keeping an eye on the goings on around your park, you can easily create a decent theme park. The game play can go deeper if you prefer it - start looking at your incomings and outgoings, wages... it can be as easy or as hard as you like.

                          Top tip: From personal experience, you can never have too many handymen or mechanics! Handymen keep your park nice and tidy (and vomit free!) and mechanics stop your rides exploding (which prevents you re-building on the same spot!)!

                          My only complaint with this version is that I can't seem to change the view at all. I'm not 100% sure if I could in the original PC game (and can't check as it's now too old for my current PC!), but it's frustrating when occasionally your paths don't meet up and you can't see where or why!

                          Overall, a fantastic and loyal remake of a true classic. Here's hoping one day they'll decide to re-make Theme Hospital for the DS too!

                          This review is for the Nintendo DS game, Theme Park, developed and published by Electronic Arts. The game, like its predecessors on other consoles and on the PC, is to build a theme park including the rides and infra-structure and keep your guests happy as they explore your new park.

                          The concept of this game is quite simple, research and build rides, build infra-structure such as paths and food outlets in your park, and then open up your theme park to the paying public. Keep an eye on the needs of your visitors and make sure that you make money. Although the concept is simple, this is a very addictive game.

                          There is a challenge mode in the game, so you start each game afresh and have to make enough profit to be able to sell your theme park before buying another bigger one, with more rides and facilities available. You start in the UK and work your way around other countries, but unfortunately, every country is really the same challenge, so it can get repetitive after playing for a while.

                          Controlling the game is easy enough, using the d-pad to move around and view your park, the touch screen and stylus are used to be able to build rides, place paths and access the menus. This all works well, although it is easy to make some mistakes and have a path constructed in a place slightly different to what you intended, but it's not bad enough to be frustrating.

                          The display is across two screens, and changes depending on what you are doing, but the developers have ensured that the graphics are clear enough for you to be able to see what you're doing, but for all the information that you might need to be visible. When your park gets busy, it is hard to make out much detail when there are lots of people walking about. The sound in the game is a little bit irritating after a while, as it consists of some slightly irritating sound effects and repetitive background music.

                          The game is a throwback to the 1990s in many ways, which isn't necessarily bad (there are releases such as Impossible Mission which are from the 1980s and the days of the Commodore 64) but expectations have changed. Working through the game is fun, but it is limited, and this game really does need some missions to work through and some specific challenges to complete.

                          There is a two player mode which you can access on the Nintendo's wi-fi connection. This is a useful additional feature, as you are able to share your park with another player, and show them just how impressively your park is run! You can't though share, or even visit yourself, games from earlier in the game, as once you move on to a new park, the old ones are inaccessible.

                          The game retails for 14.99 pounds, but is currently available on Amazon for 11.80 pounds. If you are happy with a second hand copy, these are available at time of writing for around seven pounds on sites such as eBay and Amazon. The game is rated as 3+, so is suitable for children of nearly all ages.

                          In summary, this game is fun to play and there is a long-term interest in wanting to pick the game up again. However, there are some problems which prevent this from being a very good game, which are really the lack of missions and the lack of variety in the game itself. Once you've built one park and move to a new location, you have to start again, and although there are some new rides, there's not much more. However if you obtain this game cheaply, it's great to relive some memories from the 1990s.

                            really good game with lots of fun aspects

                            In this game you begina by building and then managing a theme park of your own. Name it, set your paths and rides out and let the visitors come in. Its a port of the old PC game Theme Park Inc. It has really got the controls down well that the game is very simple to use and understand but yet contains all the depth the pc game had to offer.

                            You can built and create countless rides and your oen designs on rollercoasters. The challenges in the game is where it really kicks off not just is it fun building the park and making new zones open and get lots of money, but trying to fulfill the senior directors hot dog selling challenges and such forth is really fun.

                            The game also allows you to hire entertainers, engineere, cleaners, open food and drink shops and other attractions check up on all your visitors feelings etc.

                            The game can be more challenging that you think and is not really suited for young children as the controls and the aim of the game may require more maturity or udnerstanding of the game. But this is defiantely a fun and good buy on your DS.

                            This is the DS version of the old PC and playstation game where the object of the game is to buy, own and build your own theme park - earning enough money from ticket sales, food stalls and gift shops to buy bigger, better and more expensive rides and stalls. You have a choice of countries, each with their own unique terrain, to buy and build on - then the option to sell your theme park and start again once you have made it desirable enough. It can be quite addictive when you first get going, but for me it is a bit of a let down when you sell your theme park and end up with a bare patch of land and have to start again. I found that over all the gameplay was just as good as I remembered it on the PC but found that the stylus sometimes ran away with me a little bit, e.g. when I was building paths, they would end up longer than I wanted them to be, or in a different direction, but I enjoyed it and found it a good game in all.
