Advantages: Classic yoshi gameplay

Disadvantages: No multiplayer

When Buying a Game I look for a few things...

Length of Game Play
Quality of Gameplay
Concept of the Game
Multiplayer.

Length of Gameplay

Although it did take me a few months to complete, I may have completed it faster had I not become bored after an hour of play. I picked it up on a number of occasions, had a little play and then got bored and left it. Not the most addictive of games... But this helps in a way as you can keep coming back without ever missing anything. You won't forget how to play or what you are doing after not playing it for a couple of months and for me thats important as I do get bored easily and start on something else! I did get to the end of the game after about four months of playing it for about 2 or 3 hours a week. I think this is basically ideal! There were a number of levels which infuriated me as I could not get past a certain area, but given a couple of days break with the game shoved under the bed I would get back on it and continue on my journey!

Quality of gameplay

Set up - This is a standard platform game. The basic rules are to move from the left starting point to the right finishing point whilst climbing up and down or flying etc through the game.

Characters - I'm a fan of yoshi... For some reason the little green dino makes me go weak at the knees and act all girly. So yes... I always will love yoshi games. The babys have their own different skills and I think that it is well set out to encorporate the babies equally throughout the game and allow equal use of them and their skills. The levels have changing points, so when realising you cant complete a certain area with the baby you have you go back to the changing point and continue on (e.g. need baby donkey kong to climb or swing on vines). Basic, but good characters with a little of the aww factor!

Graphics - Nothing to write home about! Basic graphics, More or less 2D throughout. But thats the way I like the mario and yoshi game to be! So no complaints on that front here!

Concept of the game

How to go from start to finish - Platform game, slowly moving up in levels to complete goals and go to recue mario. The usual platform structure provided by the mario games which I have grown to know and love.

Storyline - Help to save the babys which have been stollen by Kamek and his crew. Baby mario has escaped and needs the help of the yoshis to rescue the rest of the babies and most of all rescue baby luigi. The storyline is that of classic mario games. Save the others who have been stolen by an enemy. I like this storyline, its simple, nothing much to remember and its what keeps me buying mario games and has done for years.

Multiplayer

I am a HUGE fan of games which provide multiplayer. I love multiplayer on games and think its one of the main things I look for. This game has no multiplayer. None at all. :( This was the biggest flaw in the game in my opinion

Evaluation and details

Number of save files - 3. None of the games overlap, no scores are crossed into each other and the game is in full in each file.

Minigames - There are minigames which appear throughout the game as you cover more of the game and collect coins and stars. This are somewhat rubbish! But still a nice extra to have with the game. All fairly simple.

Unlockables - You unlock the minigames throughout the game as well as going into new levels. The other thing which happens is that you slowly fill your museum. The museum is an area which is availible by selecting it when you have the choice of levels and it shows every enemy which you have encountered. Cute

Reccomend - I would reccomend this game. Especially to those who played Yoshi's Island before on a different console. The gameplay, whist lacking in variety, is in tune with all the other classic mario games and is easy to control and typically enfuriating when you just can't work out how some areas are possible (the makings of a true classic!)

Thank you for reading, please do comment with anything which is missing or which you would like to know.
