Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
by sik86
When this game was purchased for me as Christmas gift, I was immediately intrigued and at the first possible opportunity once the family had been dispatched I fired up the Wii. First I was taken aback by the drama of the intro screen displaying all of the characters from my youth along with the tense music, so far so good. Despite all of ... this I still didn't understand what the game was about; was it a beat 'em up, platform or puzzle.
Once I began the game I became more confused, so I consulted the manual... oh it's a little bit of all three. It quickly became apparent that the interface would take some getting used to for a Super Smash Brothers virgin.
Despite these set backs, I quickly became enthralled and all of a sudden the interface began making sense and the aim of the game became a little for clear. The general game is a platformer in the style of Mario and Sonic that joins combat sub games. The genius of the platform element is the inclusion of puzzles into the level design that become progressively more difficult. Commenting on the general difficulty of the game; it does start out very easy and becomes progressively more challenging, almost to the point of impossibility.
In terms of longevity, the game incorporates a great deal object collection that unlocks new characters an skills. This is certainly a great strength and makes the game great value for the amount of play time available.
In summary, I would highly recommend this game for anyone who grew up with Nintendo and Sega's finest, you will not be disappointed. Read the complete review |

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

If it wasn't for this game I would have probably regretted buying my Wii. To feel as if you've received your value for money with your Wii purchase I seriously recommend getting this game. It has kept me amused for many hours and had been my main purpose for playing video games up until I bought my PS3.
I was so captivated by ... Super Smash Bros Melee that when I heard of this release I knew that it would be something special.
The game allows you to play from a vast unlockable selection of your favourite nintendo characters including Mario, Link and Kirby and even Sonic is available.
The singleplayer campaign has you traversing through a side-scrolling adventure defeating bad guys and powerful bosses with a selection of characters for each part of your journey and your team grows as the story progresses. I personally really enjoyed the story and gameplay, but this is only a minute aspect of the game.
The fun really begins when playing multiplayer with your friends (or against the computer). Don't be put off by the 2D-esque camera and side-scrolling, the gameplay is really amazing. Basicaly you are fighting with your chosen characters and their own particular moves against others on a large selection of different levels with various customisable objectives and items. For beginners the game will really take some getting used to, especially if playing experienced friends, but with some practice you will learn to enjoy the game to the full extent.
The online public matches can be exciting, but pretty often lag can be a problem and make some matches unplayable. The online is made more enjoyable if you limit it to private matches just playing your friends. It can be a lot more exhilerating and the gametype will be more customisable than in public matches and there will be less lag.
As you progress with the game you will probably find yourself being attracted to particular character and call them your 'main'. Fighting will probably become a bit more serious as you strive to beat everyone else with your main and the game will become even more fun.
You will find a lot more to do with this game, such as specific challenges like 'break the target' or you can take in-game snapshots and share them online or even record some of your games to be presented to the entire online community.
This game was truly amazing to me, especially for a Wii title and I wish I could call it perfect, but there are a couple of problems. Occasionally during online public matches lag will get the better of you and make some games unplayable, but this didn't bother me too much. Secondly the Wii controller controls are really terrible, they provide little fluency with the gameplay, and being a Melee fan on the gamecube I quickly plugged in the gamecube controller and it really made a difference.
So overall I 100% suggest you buy this game, (as a Wii owner it's one of the few titles that made me feel good about my Wii purchase) but please buy a gamecube controller too. Read the complete review |

If you want to own the best game on the wii, buy this game. If you want to get the best value for money wii game, buy this game. If you are going to continue owning a wii buy this game. In all seriousness, the game super smash bros brawl is one of the greatest creations in the history of nintendo. Being created on behalf of fan demand, ... Nintendo brought back one of their old employees to create this game. After years of work and two delays, the game was finally released and its success was huge. With a massive cast of 35 characters, players can choose between these characters and fight in a stage of their choosing, even self created stages! The game operates on the simple but effective concept that whoever survives the longest and kills the most, wins the bout! Items, which can be turned on and off, add an extra layer of tactics to the game, or can simply be used for the hell of it. The game even has a wifi mode, where users can go online and battle with other players across the world. But its not just a multiplayer game. Brawl has a single player mode, where players can play the story mode, train, or choose between different fun modes such as homerun contest (to smash a sandbag as far as you can) and target smash (literally smash the targets in the fastest time). The game also has a peaceful side to it. Players can create stages, view trophies, stickers and photos and replays of their favourite matches. Bored? Why not ask a friend to play online with you by a simple exchange of friendcodes.
For me, super smash bros. Brawl is the best game I own. Time after time I come back to it, playing my friends, people online, or even just the cpu's. I can guarantee that this game will Keep you entertained for years to come. This is not just your average fighting game. This is a top quality product from the gaming masters that are nintendo.
