Wii Fit (Wii)
by Pinky101 I have always thought the idea of interactive games was awesome, they are so much fun for the whole family. The Wii fit was released a while back, and is still quite popular- that my friends is for a very good reason: it's good fun, quick and easy to use, a total recommendation. On first appearance, the Wii fit board is white ... with a small blue power button ( indicating it's switched on, surprisingly this is quite helpful) and does just about everything. When you switch it on, you are introduced to the game and given instructions on how to use it and a body test- for measuring your height, weight, BMI and how you compare to others and are given a game plan, like I say, to get in better shape. There are a number of games available: - Golf, - Running ( several options for this game) - Steps ( and for Wii fit plus steps plus) - Balance games - Yoga -Muscle workouts - Aerobic exercises - Skiing and ski jump - others are available that I can't remember but these are the ones I enjoyed most The Wii board is quite easy to use, as it switches on quickly and instructs you on how to play each game. You can see how many calories you have burnt off after each work out session, and how you ranked in comparison for other Mii's in your Mii village ( available in the Wii menu for further customisation) Personallly, the wii fit was an amazing experience and i urge anyone who hasn't got one or played it before to play at least once as you can literally watch your body become more healthy. The Wii fit gives you hints and tips as to which foods are better for you than others, although for you lucky educated people you may already know ;) The wii piggy shows you how much time you have spent on the game and how this, again, compares with the other players on your system. This data is then presented on a graph for you to see and comapre the difference from when you started to now. You can also see a total amount of days you have been active, and even receive a fair telling off from the machine for staying away too long; if that is not encouragement then what is? This piece of technology seriously wont do you any harm and is relatively cheap to buy, retailing at a reasonable price of £69.99 brand new, I think I even saw a limited edition available in Game which was black. I bought mine second hand from Game last year at Christmas for £39.99 and was in amazing condition and works perfectly, as if new. So, for those of you now willing to fork out 70 quid you can buy one second hand for a fraction of the price and it really has no difference, but I understand the principle and excitement you get from buying something with a bigger price tag...I've been there ;) 5 Dooyoo stars from Pinky, oh, and you might need to buy some batteries...just a reminder as it set me back in my tracks when they run out as soon as I bought the board... but an extra couple of quick wont break the bank. Thanks for reading guys! xxx Read the complete review |

Wii Sports (Wii)
by loulou22 Wii Sports. Nintendo Wii Wii Sports Wii Sports is the game which comes bundled with the Nintendo Wii when you purchase the console. In the first Wii bundles Wii Sports came in a normal white Wii box, the size of a DVD case, nowadays Wii Sports comes packed in a cardboard sleeve like the ones you get when you get a ... free DVD in the newspaper. Contained inside the box or sleeve is a game disc along with an instruction manual for the game and also a separate manual containing safety instructions. The game instruction manual is written in English and is clear and simple to follow. The Sports The Wii Sports game consists of 5 basic sports games, a training mode and a fitness mode. This doesn't really sound a lot, but for a game that comes included as standard I would say this is a fantastic starter. The game allows you to get a feel for the Wii remote and the different ways it can be used and one of the sports even includes the use of the Nunchuk controller. Tennis The first game on offer to you in Wii Sports is Tennis. To play a game of tennis you simply need to choose 'single game', 'best of 3' or 'best of 5' and the position which you want your mii to play in on the court. The game will then start and you simply need to swing your Wii remote as if it were a tennis racket to hit the tennis ball back and forth. The direction the ball will be returned to opposition will depend on the timing and angle you hit the ball back at. Baseball Baseball is my personal favourite on Wii Sports, however, it is also one of the most frustrating for me as your timing has to be almost perfect to hit the ball far. To play baseball you simply need to select your mii and the wii will pick a team for you. The first time you play baseball you will be given a rather long and slow moving demo of how to hold and swing the remote as your bat, once this is over the game will begin and you will need to swing your wii remote to hit the baseball and make your players run around the field. I have to admit it took me a while to get used to the timing of swinging my remote in baseball, however after spending a while on the training mode I soon got the hang of it and was hitting many 'doubles' and occasionally 'home runs' as well. The frustrating part of baseball for me is the commentary of 'foul ball' every time you hit a ball and it doesn't count, it annoys me because when I am playing this happens a lot and it distracts me. Bowling Bowling is my brothers favourite game on Wii Sports and is a simple case of pretending your wii remote is a bowling ball and rolling it down the bowling alley. When you are preparing to throw the ball you are able to move your character to the left and right as well as angle the direction you want to throw the ball. To throw your ball you need to press the 'B' button, swing your arm as if you are throwing a bowling ball and release 'B' at the moment you want to throw the ball. From personal experience I would highly recommend using the wrist strap while playing bowling and also make sure any pets are kept well out of the way, I say this as we have had many 'remote flying' incidents in the direction of the TV and also a few near misses when the dogs have walked into the room into the path of the moving remote. Despite all this though bowling remains a firm favourite with my family and we do find that we get quite competitive over it. Golf Golf is one of the games on Wii Sports that you will either really enjoy and play a lot, or you will play it once, get bored and not bother with it again. For me, it was the 2nd one as I found the game to be very slow paced and just didn't have the excitement of say a game of tennis or baseball. For my grandad however, it was the first one. He has always had an interest in golf games so when I showed him how to play golf on Wii Sports he did become slightly addicted and as a result my grandparents now own a Wii and various golf titles as well as Wii Sports. The basics of golf on wii sports are really all about standing in front of the TV and using your remote as if it were a golf club to make your swings and eventually get your ball in the cup on the green. When making your shots you must take into account the varying wind speeds and the terrain around you. Like I said, I personally don't see the excitement in this but each to their own. Boxing Ok, nice and short for boxing as to put it simply, I hate it! To play boxing you will need to use the wii remote and nunchuk and move your arms as if you are boxing to knock out your opponent. I personally don't enjoy this as firstly I find that the wire connecting the wii remote and nunchuk really gets in the way when you are putting effort into your punches and secondly I don't really enjoy getting hot and sweaty for a fake boxing match. If I want to get hot and sweaty on the wii then I would rather play Just Dance and have fun putting effort into it. Training Mode Wii Sports contains a training mode with 3 different activities to help you improve your skills in each of the different sports. When I first played wii sports I did find this beneficial as the different activities do help you to improve your skills and it is nice when your efforts in training are rewarded with bronze, silver or gold medals depending on your performance. I find this encouraged me to keep practicing as I wanted to get gold in all of the activities. I enjoy playing in the training mode as to me it is like a little section on mini games for each sport and I sometimes enjoy it more than playing a proper game. My favourite training mode is the baseball 'Home Runs' where you practice hitting the ball to get the perfect swing and hit a home run. I also enjoy the tennis 'Target Practice' where you need to hit the ball against a wall repeatedly to smash the targets on it. There are 3 training activities for each sport, so with 5 different sports this creates an extra 15 mini games to keep you busy. Fitness Mode As if all of the above wasn't enough for a game that comes bundled with the Wii console as standard Wii Sports also offers a Fitness Mode to tell you your fitness age. This mode is fun and incorporates the mini games from the training mode to determine your speed, balance and stamina and then present you with your overall fitness age. Another reason to practice the training activities! The fitness mode can only be completed once a day by each mii character and it will keep a record of your age which is then displayed on a graph so you can monitor your progress. It is kind of like an early version of the Wii Fit in the making. Pro Points When you are playing all of the sport in Wii Sports you will be awarded points at the end of each game. The amount of points you receive will depend on your performance and a running total will be kept. When you reach 1000 points in any sport you will be regarded as a Pro and have a little star by your name. Multiplayer The multiplayer mode in the game is good! Each of the sports can be played in multiplayer mode with up to four players or two players in Baseball and Boxing. For Bowling and Golf you can play multiplayer with one remote shared between the players as these are both games where you take turns, however for Baseball, Tennis and Boxing you will need multiple remotes for however many players are taking part. I find that tennis and bowling are the best games to play in multiplayer mode as the get quite competitive and some of my friends also enjoy boxing in multiplayer but as I said earlier I don't enjoy the boxing mode at all. Controls The controls of the game in general are easy. In all of the sports you need to use the remote as if you are actually playing the sport for real and simply move or swing your remote around you. The hard part of the controls for me is getting the timing right, especially in games like baseball and tennis, but after a bit of practice it is actually quite easy. Graphics and Sound The graphics in the game are great, very simple, but very effective for this game. The sports are bright and your mii's are very well animated, often with comical facial expressions. Overall the whole game runs really smoothly. The sound is also great, the sound effects during the game are realistic and the only slightly annoying part of the sound is the commentary you get in some of the sports, but overall this is bearable. Price and Availability Wii Sports comes bundled with the Wii console as standard so technically you could say it is free. If for some reason you don't receive wii Sports when you purchase your wii you will be able to find a copy of Wii Sports on eBay quite cheap. My Experience and Opinion I enjoy playing Wii Sports and would recommend it to anyone of any age. For a game which you get included with the console I find there is a lot to do and it will take ages for you to get bored of playing. Overall I would recommend this game for both adults and children of all gaming abilities as it is fun and easy to play. Thanks for reading :) Read the complete review |

Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Wii)
by puple_lady ==Personal Account== I had a baby in 2008 and I'm not the most motivated person out there as well as exercise Id been on every diet going and was still larger than I wanted to be. I brought the white wii console and board plus wii fit and sports game for £80 with £10 delivery as the size and weight of the board boosted the cost for ... the seller. I was hoping it was worth the money as the seller didn't do refunds. It was easy to set up and didn't have cables lying all over the place. When you first use it you are asked to build a profile of yourself and enter a password to ensure your personal data is secure. I found the games a lot of fun and my daughter enjoys watching me play on one game in particular where you have to use the balance board to shift your weight from side to side to get the penguin to slide back and forth on the ice burg to eat as many fish as you can. That's just one of the many games that are on the wii fit, there is also yoga exercises, aerobic and balance games. I started off with a BMI of 33 and its now 29, I have only used it twice-three times a week 40minutes each time along side walking three times a week for an hour and its reduced my weight considerably in a matter of months. With being a single parent I'm in almost every night so having the wii means I can play on it to pass the time and work towards beating my personal bests on the games while toning up and keeping fit. I love that I can do it at a time that's convenient for me and in the comfort of my own home. Being able to weigh yourself allows you to easily keep track of your progress and there's a little guidance tool in the form of a wii board that helps you set personal weight loss targets and gives you weight loss tips amongst other things. I enjoy doing the walking challenge while watching TV as you can have the Wii on the AV channel while you got a programme on and still do the exercise while watching your favourite film for example. The great thing about the wii is that it can be multiplayer and the whole family can keep fit and spend quality time together without realising how beneficial it is towards your health/fitness as its so much fun. I am so glad I purchased this console it changed my life, with how fun the games are I didn't need a lot of motivation to go on it and seeing how much weight I lost I'm still a keen wii gamer. ==Product Information== In a standard wii package you get the wii console, a controller, a nun chuck, scar lead to attach the wii to the TV and controller signal sensor that goes on to the TV. You can get the wii in red, white or black. There are a range of games for the wii and some can be used with/without the balance board. They start from £100 upwards brand new but you can get some brilliant bargains second hand offline or in stores. ==Advantages== Easily set up so you can play it in a short period of time if your keen to try out your purchase and get fit ASAP. It comes with a variety of games to suit a range of peoples likes and dislikes no matter what age group. No need to keep a track of your weight loss as all the information is stored on your profile such as BMI, a weight loss chart showing your weight changes through out using it and since the last time you weighed yourself. No need to read the manual on using the wii fit game as there's a little wii board icon that guides you through each aspect and gives you tutorials on whatever you want. Built in weighing machine in the balance board so no need for home weighing scales. For me it has the advantage over other consoles as you are up on your feet and more a part of the game so it makes it a fun interactive experience for all that play. Easily stored on the TV unit as its smaller than a DVD player. ==Disadvantages== There's not many disadvantages to this console the only thing is the controller signal sensor is a bit tricky to attach to the TV as it has sticky pads on the bottom of it to attach to the top of the TV to track the signal to use the wireless feature of the controller and I've found it falls off a lot as my TVs quite thin. And its frustrating as its not something you can simply work over its required in order to play the games so I've had to cello tape it to the top as that's the only way to attach it. In my opinion its such a shame as this really is an amazing console, I've loved using it and its done wonders for my weight. The board is quite large(55cm long by 33cmwide) so it may have to be kept in a cupboard while not in use to ensure it doesn't get broken. ==Summary== A fabulous console that's easy to set up and great fun for individuals, families or groups and there's some great deals on wii packages so for a one off payment you can have endless fun with people close to you while all keeping fit together!
