Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City: Wii

Until Christmas I had never heard of the animal crossing games but the other half got me this with my Wii because it looked "cute". I really enjoy it.

On Let's go to the City you arrive at your town, (which you can name), after a ride on a bus and a chat with a mouse who tells you a few things and let's you choose your name etc. When you arrive at your ton you need to head on over to the Town Hall, (you have a handy map to help you find your way around), and then buy a house. You get a hefty mortgage and you have to earn cash, (by selling bugs, fish, fruit etc), to buy clothes, furniture and of course to pay off your debt. As you pay off your mortgage you can upgrade your house which gives you another hue chunk of debt to work off!

Your town will change as the year progresses with fishing and bug catching competitions, flea markets, travelling salesmen and of course seasonal changes to keep the game interesting. Some of the seasonal activities are good fun, I especially like November because you can find mushrooms to sell and some of the mushrooms are actually mushroom related furniture which I think are cute. You get different weather types like snow, rain etc.

Ach ton will have one type of native fruit, (I reloaded until I got cherries), and you will find other types as you play. You can either sell the fruit or plant it so it grows into a tree. You get more money, (or bells as the game calls it), for foreign fruit. You can fish too with a little rod and using the Wii remote it is quite good fun as is catching bugs with a net or digging for fossils and buried treasure.

Sometimes people move in and out of your town; this can be a relief when an irritating character leaves or a bit sad if it's one of your favourites but it does help to keep the game fresh.

In your town there is a general shop, a clothes shop, a museum, a café, a exploratory and a town hall. You can also take the bus to the city where there are a couple of shops, a hairdressers, a fortune teller, an auction house, (online only), and theatre. I have to admit I was really disappointed with the city part of this game and I rarely bother to go there.

There are a few niggles; I can't experience a lot of the game because I am not online which gets on my nerves. Secondly it can get a little repetitive and as it's "real time" the shops are closed sometimes and to carry on playing you need to reset the date and time on your Wii.

There are quite a lot of things to do like making up and naming constellations and seeing a show in the café. There is no real plot though, you just potter round doing what you want and enjoying the game. Having said that there is a "town fund" you can donate money to and after a while there will be some sort of upgrade to your town.

If your Wii is online you can visit other towns belonging to your friends and they can visit your town. I think it sounds quite cool and would definitely be popular with younger players. You can also use this game with Wii speak which lets you chat to your friends when you are visiting them but I have never used it.

This game is available on it's own for 29.99 new or 26.75 used, with Wii speak for 39.99 and Wii speak on its own is 17.76 new and 15.99 used all from Amazon.

I obviously love this game and definitely recommend this to younger Wii users and those who can't get enough of that cutesy Nintendo thing.

My daughter loves this game. I am continually reminding her to pick up weeds to keep the place looking tidy - LOL!
