When my brother first got a Wii I must admit that I wasn't keen on playing on it at all but then he brought home 'Barnyard', which he'd borrowed from a friend and almost immediatly I was hooked.
Barnyard is the game 'adaptation' of the film of the same name and puts you in control of the newcomer to the farm. Allowing you to use both the wii remote and the num-chuck as you progress through the adventure style cartoon game.
Like I have just mentioned when the game first begins you are the farm's newcomer (a cow, which you can customise) but luckily for you, you get your feet under the table quite quickly and soon find yourself running errands for the older hands and generally protecting the farm as well as earning a bit on the side.
The premise for the game is relatively simple as you can see and as you would probably imagine for a childs game based upon a film. But whatever your preconceptions about the game may be it truly is addictive once you begin to play it and as a young adult I must say that I really enjoyed it - sad I know.
Now the game itself is a mix of long running missions and side missions. The long running mission is to collect gold coins (which can be acheived through the mini missions as well as smashing objects) and use them to kit out the barn into a classy farm night-club. The games side missions, which must be ompleted to earn the coins, include putting the chicks to bed for Hanna the Chicken and rounding up Otis's pals as well as car and bicyle races and the option to play darts and pool.
The graphics on the game are in my opinion really good and the characters and environments although cartoon quite realistic. Because of the cartoon style the game is eternally bright and fresh looking and I can see how this will definitely help to keep children entertained. Furthermore the character voices are unique and better-still non-irritating and the music which plays throughout the game is in keeping with what is happening on the screen (fast or slow paced depending on the mission) and like the voices doesn't irritate like a lot of in-game music does.
The controls for the game are really simple and easily mastered and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised by this because I often find that game creaters tend to give children's games somewhat complicated controls, which they struggle to work never mind master.
All in all I think that Barnyard is a more than enjoyable game, which is definitely worth purchasing if you have children or even nephews, neices or grandchildren that you see regularly. I suspect though that even if you do buy it for your young charges that ithe pleasure of playing it won't remain theirs alone for long.
This game is very true to the film of the same title, Its good fun with lots to do to keep you occupied. You can choose which cow you want to be in the game and meet all the characters from the film. Very good graphics, very addictive, needs a nunchuck control for the wii to use this. Is listed as age 3+ but not sure if thats a bit young for the control use. Excellent value game.
Welcome to the yard where the vibrant world of Nickelodeon's Barnyard movie will come to life. Gamers of all ages will be entertained by this brand new barnyard adventure.
