Advantages: Absolutely wonderful multiplayer for the family. A major party game
Disadvantages: Weak singleplayer once you get it down.
Originally released on the DS whilst colliding the
immense popularity of "Brain Age", Big Brain Academy
for the Nintendo Wii is the same mind game, but now
expanded on for the whole family as well as friends to
join along. Yes, indeed, now you truly can prove that
you are smarter than a college graduate and your
parents aren't smarter than a couple of
grandparents.......hopefully that sounds right. Onto
the review, my fellow classmates.
Idea: Big Brain Academy introduces the plot that the
bigger brain you have, the smarter you are. Dr. Lobe,
the headmaster of the academy, puts you through
multiple mental questions to challenge your mind's capacity of knowledge and accuracy.
Graphics: Cutesy 2-D animations fill the screen as all characters show off the power of the Wii as much as is possible for this type of game. However, graphics do not mean much in this game, as it is the gameplay that is more interesting.
Gameplay: As is usual, solving the tests and moving quickly is rather fun, as the Wii-mote is very similar to how the stylus was for the DS version. In that sense, it actually becomes either easier or harder, depending on whether or not you are used to holding a pencil or a remote control. At first, it becomes incredibly noticable that you will just plainly suck at the first try. No matter what, you need to truly practice at this game in order to grasp the feel and mentality. However, the single player is not the core gameplay. The true core gameplay lies in the multiplayer mode. Finally, you and your family can match wits against each other or work together with one another. Just as much as "Lego Star Wars" was a family get-together, this IS a family work-together. Yes, this game is truly a wonderful addition to family game night. Sadly, my family didn't spend much time with me on it. :/
Overall, as far as this game goes, it will be a party game, which is the main reason as to why I give this game 5 out of 5. Perfect for anyone willing to par-tay!
Summary: Simple graphics, but with an awesome gameplay, Big Brain Academy is a massive party game.
