This was the first fishing sim game I caught wind of for the Wii. Being an avid fisherman for many years I jumped at the chance and purchased a copy immediately. This was a mistake.
From the start it is apparent that this is a game that has had very little thought put into it. The menu's are poor, the gameplay is very limited and the choice of lures leaves a great deal to be desired. It is also incredibly hard to actually catch fish and on occasion (in competition mode in particular) it becomes nigh on impossible. In real life the conditions etc lead to different tactics. The tactics that would work in real life do not work and as such this is a very poor sim.
Not only is this a poor sim but it doesn't even benefit from being fun. I literally played this half a dozen times before I traded it in. Please do not waste your money.
Big Bass Fishing on the Wii is a great game! I bought it for my partner a few months ago and he sits hooked to it for hours on end! Brings a little samity to a womans life ;o)
You can choose to play in competition or just go fishing. The game isn't consistent, just like real fishing, sometimes you'll catch and other times you won't....you need to find the good spots for sinking your lure and hooking a big fish.
The game is easy to control and you get to choose your lure and lure colour in order to attract fish to bite.
The Wii fishing rod isn't needed as it is easy to play with just the Wii Remote, although having the rod would maybe make it feel a little more fun and realistic perhaps?
All in all it's a very good game, my OH and Son enjoy playing it and trying to beat each other's weight of fish record!
Utilising all the interactive possibilities of the Wii, and with a variety of challenging target Bass to catch, this is one Big fishing game.
