Advantages: A whole new game play system exclusive to the Wii.
Disadvantages: The shortness of the game | Graphics declining from its' prequel | Lack of multiplayer.
Call of Duty 3, the third instalment to the Call of Duty series. Sticking to what it does best, Call of Duty focuses on the spectacular battles that were situated in World War 2, and has so far been one of the only World War 2 game series that doesn’t revolve a main part of the game around Omaha Beach on D-Day, instead it shows you different aspects of what happened during D-Day in 1944. As usual, Call of Duty 3 sticks to as much truth as possible, without loosing the fun of hardcore war combat. Though unlike the other Call of Duty games (Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2), this Call of Duty is made purely for consoles, and not for PC’s, thus this has caused the game to decline in graphics from its’ prequel Call of Duty 2.
The aim of the game is to live through the war by being a soldier, rising through the ranks of all three British, American and Russian stories. Use your weapons, such as rifles, machine guns and other World War 2 firearms to take out the enemy soldiers. What makes the Wii version of Call of Duty 3 so unique? Call of Duty 3 Wii version is possibly the most fun war game I have ever played. You use your Wii remote to aim and fire at the enemy, just like you would if your holding a real rifle, shoot at will and aim at will. It also adds in new features for the driving part of the game, and the new “close weapon” fighting. For the driving, you would turn your Wii remote to the side, and use it as a steering wheel, so it brings the realness of actually driving to the game. For the “close fighting”, you move the remote around accordingly to successfully survive and knock out the soldier trying to knock you out with the end of his rife.
Though unlike the other Call of Duty games (and possibly the other formats of this version), there is no multiplayer or coop, so its’ just single player, which makes the game less effective when you have friends around, as I’m sure it would be great fun fighting other people online or your friends with the whole new style of Wii game play. The game is not all just shooting down enemies as you see them, there are also other objectives you must achieve during the battles, such as planting bombs, destroying vital building parts to gain advantage in war, battling tanks, jeeps and all sorts, which increases the fun of this First Person Shooter.
I found the game very fun, though it will take a while to get use to the whole new Wii style of game play. But once passed this, you should find it very enjoyable. From night raids to full-scale assaults, this game brings intense action for your playing pleasure. Like the previous Call of Duty games, this is rather addictive, though due to its fair shortness, it won’t last that long, though due to the choices you have to make during the game, you could quite easily play through the game again and again for a few more times.
The game is based on World War 2, but the battles it shows are original to World War game series. Call of Duty cover very few famous battles, and focuses more on the lesser known battles so you learn from this game as well as have fun. The graphics are not too shabby, though comparing them to Call of Duty 2, they are at a major decline, though I didn’t really expect much to come from a console powered game, but for a games console, the graphics are pretty decent. The games music is very good, mainly epic music to really get you in the mood and set the scene of what’s going on, and in general makes you want to play the game more. This game is fully voiced, where during the game, your allies and enemies will speak, in mid-combat they will speak also, such as shouting “grenade” or “need artillery support” etc, which brings more life to the game, and seems less… lonely.
The game is not very difficult once you have gotten use to how to play the game, though it can be extremely hard when you get yourself into a tight spot, it all depends really on how tactical you are, how many troops you have in your squad, and how numerous the enemies are. I got this game as a Christmas present (along with getting the Wii, and a couple of other games, so expect to see my Wii game reviews in the near future), but I notice it to be around £35 online, and £40 in stores, though this may seem expensive, but the enjoyment this game brings, it is worth it.
I notice that this review is a lot shorter compared to my others, but I wasn’t really too sure what else to write, I didn’t really want to resort to listing weapons, and other things like that to make the review look better, but I dislike to use facts in my reviews. Anyway, I have had a lot of fun with this game, and hope that they will keep making this series more fun in each future instalment. I recommend this game for all Wii users, but I don’t recommend this game to anyone who wants it on another console, Call of Duty is only good on PC, and now on the Wii, much easier to play, and a lot more fun. Please inform me if there is information I have failed to cover in this review or any personal information you would like to know about this game, then let me know and I shall update!
Overall Rating: 8.2/10
Summary: A great World War 2 shooter with the enhancment of the Wii expirience.
