Advantages: lots of items to kill zombies with, lots of zombies to kill, zombies zombies zombies!!!!
Disadvantages: The controls can be a bit tricky to get used to and may take some time adapting to them
Developers: Capcom
Format: Nintendo Wii
When I first seen this game advertised I was very excited to see another zombie game hit the shelves. If you read my House of the Dead: Overkill review you will know that I am a huge fan of the undead! If slapping zombies for a living was possible, I'd be on my way to a promotion!
I first played the demo of 'Dead Rising' on Xbox 360 and it was quite gruesome and totally fun to get into - but it would be - it had zombies in it!
When Nintendo Wii announced that they were going to release this as 'Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop' I was over the moon! Imagine ripping into zombies using the Wii-mote and Nunchuks! My heart was racing already just thinking about it.
My first impressions of the game when I finally got my hands on it I felt a bit let down by the controls, as I previously played this on the Xbox 360. It took me a staggering 15 minutes to get used to the controls! I must be slacking, or adapting to the game for someone who's already played it is a bit intense.
After getting into the game, playing around and hacking and chopping my way through all the zombies, I came to my overal opinion that the game is fun on the Wii due to the use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuks, once you get used to them, but the game overall I feel is better on the Xbox 360. This is mainly due to the far superior graphics and the slick controls that the Xbox has that are easy to pick up and put down like suplexing a zombie to death.
The plot features main-man and freelance photographer Frank West, who's trying to find out what's going on in a Colorado shopping mall and what caused the zombie apocalypse that he's about to get himself into.
The aim of the game is to complete missions, rescue survivors and when you're able - roam around the mall and just lay into the swarms of zombies that you'll encounter throughout the game.
My technical opinions are as follows...
Gameplay Rating: 7/10
Graphics Rating: 7/10
Sound Rating: 9/10
Difficulty Rating: 7/10
Longevity Rating: 7/10
Multiplayer Rating: 0/10
Instruction Manual Rating: 7/10
Community Rating: 6/10
Overall Rating: 7/10
Ratings: 1-2 Dire, 3-4 Mediocre, 5-6 Standard, 7-8 Good, 9-10 Excellent.
The game promised to deliver a game where you can chop till you drop and you get to do just that! You also get to do it in style with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk - awesome!
Conclusion - Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is a must for all zombie geeks out there. If you're wanting a game where you are mostly running around and spanking undead behind with anything you can lay your hands on then this is a quality outlet for your sick and twisted little mind!
A number of things have been changed or tweaked for the Wii version, due to the console being inferior to the Xbox in terms of graphics and capabilities, so there's a lot less zombies on screen at the same time on the Wii format.
If people are sad enough to own both Wii and Xbox like myself and wonder which format to get it on...if you prefer novelty and unique hack n slash controls get it on Wii, if you like a smoother flowing game with better graphics and capabilities Xbox is where it's at.
Is it value for money? Well, that depends how much you pay for it! I paid £25 for this around about when it first came out. I would say if you can get this for £10-20 then it's money well spent!
Online retailers that I recommend that you buy the product from if you like this review - Play.com and Amazon.co.uk
Summary: IT'S ZOMBIE TIME!

- 19/06/09 Ahhh, I was slightly dubious about this, but you've made it sound worthwhile. Might have to look into it- the zombie apocalypse marches on... |

- 18/06/09 Pretty much. With the Wii version it gives you a decent time out to rest your arms from constannt wii-mote abuse.
