My son really loved the movie of Bolt so was excited when it came out on Wii and he started playing this game when he was six although it is recommended for 7+.
In this game you can play as either Penny or Bolt depending which of the 25 episodes you are playing as in some parts you need the skills of Bolt to suceed in a mission and at others you need the skills of Penny. I like this as it adds a bit of variety during the game and you get to know the individual charcters better through using them to for certain tasks. My son wasn't too keen on being the girl at first but it turns out that Penny is quite cool so he soon got past his concern as playing as a girl although I think he definitely likes being Bolt the most!
Your objective is to rescue Penny's father from the evil Calico and his henchmen and also save the world whilst you are at it - a tall order but rest assured that Penny and Bolt are up to the job if you can use their abilities at the necessary times.
If your children liked the film they will love playing this action packed adventure game which travels the globe and challenges you to use Penny's wits and skills and Bolt's incredible super powers to complete missions, unlocking Bolt mini games along the way.
This game follows the premise of the feature film quite closely and as previously mentioned carries a 7+ age rating which is about right as there are quite a lot of different movements and combinations of control pad and buttons needed to carry out certain abilities or moves in order to advance through the levels. However, my six year old manages to play most of it on his own, needing help only now and again. There are cheats if you really need them in the Extras menu.
What I like about this game in particular is that it has a proper storyline that is easy for your children to follow and challenges them to complete stages and work towards an end result. When they achieve the end result it gives them a real sense of satisfaction and my son was very proud getting to grips with a game a year above his age. There are tips and reminders along the way that help you to use the appropriate ability and this is also a very helpful feature that allows your child to play without having to rely to much on an adult's help.
The graphics and animation are really good too which adds to the enjoyment of playing the game and the overall believeability of the game whilst you are playing. The fact that there are 25 different episodes also give this game good longevity as it is not something that can be completed quickly so this makes it better value for money too.
Now aged 8 he has moved on from this game largely because his interests have changed but I would definitely recommend this if your kids are in to adventure type games and especially if they love Bolt the movie or toys.
Thanks for reading. x
