Advantages: its in your living room, its fun, the price is coming down
Disadvantages: its not the workout it seems to suggest but perhaps im just not taking it seriously enough?
As some of you are aware, I purchased this as a treat to myself with my amazon vouchers through Dooyoo- thanks to all that contributed 1.5p's!
Ive had it a while now and must say that straight away you can feel this is more of a workout than the wii fit (although im yet to try the fit plus).
The box comes complete with the disk, instructions, a leg strap and a resistance band.
You then require your own wii remote and nunchuck and if you have one, you can also incorporate your fit board.
I must admit that when I received it I just wanted to stik the disk in and exercise but you really must give yourself time to create your profile, set your goals and familiarise yourself with the routines.
Creating your profile is easy enough. You do this simply by entering your name, gender, age, height and weight when prompted. This is to enable it to calculate your projected calorie burn so should be filled in accurately or youll only be lying to yourself!
After creating your profile you can customise your appearance. YOu can choose your skin colour, hair style etc as well as choosing what colour you wll wear, wether you wear glasses, baseball cap etc...
You can fill in a journal and customise which exercises youd rather do etc but the bfeature that Ive used most to date is the 30 day challenge. Its just as it sounds - a 30 day challenge- each day the exercises vary and really are quite fun and they even incorporate rest days for you!. You can choose your intensity and even the type of background music. You chose a male or female trainer and they will always appear at the bottom right of the screen for you to follow and their encouragement may annoy you by day 20! Each day the exercises last around 20 minutes on the easy intensity setting and you burn approx 100 calories which really isnt much but better than sitting on the seetee I guess?
THere are other features which I cant comment on as I havnt used them such as work out with friends and customising the playlist.
I could sit and write the instructions for an hour but im sure youre all actually wondering how Ive got on ??
Well its fun definately and there is alot of variety but I have to comment that I find alot of it painfully slow! Even by 'fast forwarding' the 'show me how' sections there is quite a space between exercises when you just think 'IM INTO IT NOW AND I WANT TO KEEP EXERCISING!!' - If you want to jog for 20 minutes go out and jog and it will take you 20 minutes but 20 minutes exercise on the wii active can take up to 35 minutes!
I also find that with some of the exercises, for example the knee crunches or the back arm extensions, are hindered by the wire between the remote and the nunchuck. Has anyone else had a problem with this?
Whilst Im on a roll here,I have also found that my resistance band is twisted and 'stuck' together, its not at all a heavy duty band and you may find that you will have to replace this.
All in all Id say that now the price has come down a fair bit on this Id buy it for the fun factor but not really for the serious gym enthusiast! .... or perhaps im just not taking it seriously enough?
Summary: Get it for the fun factor!
