Grease the game for the wii console.
When I first heard that a game was being released on the wii called Grease, I was mega excited, as I am a bit of a Grease fanatic. I had been on the look out for a Grease themed game for years and I was full of excited anticipation waiting for the game to be released. Sadly, this game was a complete letdown, which is a shame as there was so much that could of been done with the game.
The game can be played in story mode or as individual mini challenges. If you play the game in story mode you go through a variety of mini games with clips from the film being played in between games. The game was hard to pick up as there were no on-screen instructions to follow and I had to try each game quite a few times just to understand what I was suppose to be doing. Once the game play has been discovered I found the game to be quite boring and at times very child like. It said on the case that you could use microphones, so I went out to buy microphones especially for the game as I imagined there would be parts where you would be able to play in the same sort of format as 'sing star' on the ps3, but yet again I was disappointed. You can only sing when you are playing the game in teams, so while one of your team members is participating in a challenge, you then have the option of singing along and scoring extra points for your team.
This game is badly put together to try and tap in to some easy money. They know how popular the film Grease has been over the years and I feel that no actual thought was put into the game, they just thought that they could sell the game through the name alone and I was very disappointed. There is so much more that could have been done with this game to make it a brilliant tribute to the film and also to make it a game that you would really value and play time and time again.
If you have small children, it may be worth a go as they would probably find it fun as long as you spent a while working out the controls and aims of each game so that you could explain it to them, but for anyone older then 10 who is a true Grease fan this game will be nothing but a waste of time and money.
Now I am sure we all love a bit a grease - well I do and so was quite excited when I found this game for the wii in the shops I got it for £20 which is around average I would say for a wii game.
So what did I think...........
Well this game in one word was disappointing - the game consists of a series of events leading up to the big race as in grease the movie you can play it in story mode and follow the events which happen in the film, there are film sequences as well as cartoon versions as you go along. As in Grease there is dancing to be done, cars to be fixed and races to take part n all using the wii remote. The tracks are all from the film as well and the lyrics come up on the screen for you to sing as you play.
Sounds ok but the game play I found was not explained very well for the first dance section I had to go back to the instructions and find out exactly how it was I was suppost to be moving on my wii board as my movements were not registering in any way to operate the game. I know the instructions are there to be read but most games these days are easy enough to pick up as you go along. The garage repair part was ok to play and probably my favourite part again once I had figured out how to operate it.
I think that the expectations for a game based on such a popular film were always going to be high and this has sadly let me down. With slow game play and story time I got irritated after a while and turned it off, definatley a let down for me 2 stars.
