Advantages: Still fun to play

Disadvantages: Not as good value for money

Having been playing 'Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock' since its release (and getting a little bored with some of the tracks), I was eagerly awaiting the first of the band specific 'updates' to the game, which in this case focuses on aging rockers Aerosmith.

This £29 version of the game doesn't come with the guitar controller, so you'll have to buy that separately if you don't already have one. You can get hold of a cheaper 'third party' controller for £28.98 from Amazon, or if you don't trust having a cheaper guitar, you could opt for the £64 package which features Nintendo's own wireless controller.

Not being an Aerosmith fan, I must admit that I only bought this game as I found it going really cheaply on eBay.

Firstly, let's get one thing straight - this is an absolute cash in from the game makers. As the game graphics haven't been improved (only re-themed), you're paying around £30 just to get hold of 31 slightly dull (some are good) songs.

Secondly, the difficulty level has been markedly toned down. This is especially apparent on the easy setting, where the majority of songs are very bland to play.

Luckily, I play on Hard and Expert - but even on these modes, things seem a little simpler than in the original game.

All Guitar Hero games are great fun to play, and this version is no different - but it's in no way as good as the original. With the bonus tracks available, there are around 40 songs to play whilst 'Legends of Rock' featured around 73. It's pretty obvious that this game doesn't represent as good value for money as the original.

I would recommend this product to Aerosmith fans only.
