Advantages: Addictive fun, challenging (for me!!)

Disadvantages: Relatively expensive, the 'instruments' don't look very robust

Guitar Hero World Tour Band Bundle on the Wii Console

Though I'm a little old for console games (at least that's how I feel after clearing up after the kids all day), I got introduced to the Guitar Hero World Tour Band Bundle by my nephew - and found it great fun for an afternoon's entertainment... though I do have some reservations.

Firstly off - though the game is a lot of fun (again it may be my age) but the price seems a little high to me -as the items included - 'guitar', 'drum kit' and microphone don't appear to be of a particularly great construction quality (though they are undeniably adequate for the purpose). So if I had to buy the bundle myself I'd certainly be using the shopping comparison websites, or waiting for a sale (but that's just how I am -lol!!).

Being a guitarist myself, I went straight for the guitar -and here's another of my little gripes -there a quite a few folks out there who labour under the illusion that the included guitar is in some way similar to a real one, and authentic...

I have to shatter that illusion here and now -it most definitely isn't like a guitar to hold, play or use -it's a game controller in a fun shape is all - so don't think for a second that playing the game using the 'guitar' will set you up ready to play anything on the real thing; it won't. So forget the hype and urban folk law and just enjoy, what's essentially a very enjoyable game...

(Conversely - the drum kit and microphone (unlike the guitar) do give you a little 'real' practice at being a proper musician - but again it's only slight-lol!!).

But those little gripes aside - I do recommend Guitar Hero World Tour Band Bundle on the Wii; the game play is awesome;

I tried everything from singing into the mic, while the game prints the lyrics on screen, playing the 'guitar's' colored buttons, trying frantically to keep up with the often furious combination of presses required (and usually failing -though my young nephew was annoyingly good at it!), and finally gave the plastic 'drum kit' a tender thumping (hadn't got the heart to hit it too hard, just in case!), only to lapse into 'shed building' rather than accomplished game play drumming; seriously the drum part of the game is hard -lol!!

Not being a seasoned Guitar Hero user -I opted for the quick play section most of the time; which seemed more fun and less hassle to me (though I'm sure many devotees of the game will disagree) - I couldn't quite summon up the interest to create my own characters and map my 'career' through the game - but I'm sure I'd give it a go if I had more time....

Conclusion -
I enjoyed this Wii game immensely, though I think it's a bit overpriced and the 'instruments' may not last as long as you'd hope, if used over enthusiastic.

Summary: Great bundle, but I wonder if is it's quite worth the price and will the instruments last?
