Guitar hero world tour is one of my favourite games for the Nintendo Wii. Many a night we have had music competitions in my lounge when we have friends round and have had such a blast of a night. I can't play a real guitar but when I get on this Wii guitar I feel like a rock star. I might be bragging but I am actually quite good at this game and hit all the notes and so I can almost make myself believe that I can play an actual guitar.
We bought the whole band bundle when we got this game which included microphones, drums and guitars. As we bought it a few years ago I cannot quite remember what came in the bundle but I do remember we bought another guitar so that if my husband and I just want a duelling guitar battle then we can do that too.
Obviously the guitar is plastic but I have to say I think Nintendo have done a good job with the basic design as they look quite real to me, a guitar novice and the hold and feel of them also feels quite authentic. I think the guitar is almost as big as a real guitar but not quite. It's definitely lighter as obviously it is plastic and not another material. I think the authentic feel really adds to the playability of the game and guitar and like a lot of Wii games makes it an enjoyable playing experience as it feels like a real life situation.
The guitar comes with a strap that you can detach and that allows you to put over your head and hold onto the guitar safely, much like a real one. When you first bought our guitars the funniest part for us was the stickers that came with it that allow you to customise your guitar or "pimp it out" as I like to say. The guitar was a dark brown colour, in my opinion made to look like a real wooden guitar which is nice as it makes it authentic. The stickers included flames, hearts, names of bands etc, skulls and really makes your guitar look like you are a real rock star with a customised instrument.
The guitar has 5 coloured buttons at the top of the guitar which are the fret buttons and what you play the notes with. They are green, red, yellow, blue and orange in that order from top to bottom and fit nicely underneath your fingertips. I find these quite easy to press down and they do not stick or anything like that. There is also a strum bar which you press and is like strumming the strings on a guitar and a whammy bar. You Wii remote fits into a slot in the guitar and allows you to play freely and remotely without having any wires hooked up to the games console. Again, this features also for me adds to the authentic playability of the guitar and makes you think you are playing a real guitar. The guitar is quite hard wearing and we have not had any breakages in the last few years. Of course if you want to be like a real rock star and smash up your guitar on stage then I cannot guarantee it will last but apart from that they have lasted really well.
Playing with the guitar is easy, (well, if you're as good as I am, he he). Basically when you put the game on the screen to play you will see a bar for the notes that keeps moving as the song progresses. Then, for example when you see a red note come on the screen you press the button on the guitar that is red, strum the strum bar and so on. If you play the note in time it bursts into flames and lights up, if you don't get it you heard a dud noise to tell you you've missed it and the note doesn't light up. The songs get increasingly harder as you go along with various note combinations, etc. It's really all about eye hand coordination and if you are good at this then I would say that you would be pretty good at playing this guitar. The play is almost instant as far as I'm concerned, as soon as I press the button no the guitar it transfers to the screen in a split second so I would say that the responsiveness is very good.
All in all a great instrument and fun to play.
