Just Dance 2 (Wii)
Advantages: Great music, new modes, keep fit
Disadvantages: Hard to follow instructions
After dancing our way through all the songs on Just Dance, it didnt take long for the kids to start asking for the new game, Just Dance 2. So, come Christmas Day they were really happy to receive it as a present, and at 8.30am they wanted to put it on! After managing to hld them off a few hours, we gave in and gave it a bash.
Right from the holographic cover (that makes the dancers on the case look like they are moving) this game is eyecatching. Boasting 45 tracks, including hits by Rihanna, Cher, The Pussycat Dolls and Jackson 5, theres a cool mix of current hit singles, as well as some classic older songs we all love.
There are a few ways to play - as with the first game, theres Just Dance. You can have 1-4 players playing in these games, and if you want to join halfway through, just pic up a remote, give it a shake, and you're in. In this mode, you can either pick your own songs, or do a shuffle and the the game pick for you, and just dance! Each player has like a 'meter' and every time you hit a move, your meter fills up. The person whose meter is higher at the end, wins!
Dance Battle - you can play this 1-4 players, or you can play in teams. You play 5 rounds, and the team with the highest points at the end of the 5th round, wins.
Just Sweat - this is new to Just Dance 2, and my favourite bit! You can chose a program, either mild, tough or intense. As you complete a track, the game keeps a count of how much sweat you have burned off per song after using the sweat counter, which is on show during the game, and tells you how hard you are working during the routine. The Just Sweat programs can be done over a week and keep a tally of how much excercise you have been doing on a chart.
How To Play
Once you have chosen which mode you want to play in, you will be taken through to the songs. You can scroll through and see all the songs available, and underneath each sing is a difficulty rating between 1 and 3, 1 being easy, 3 being hard.
Once you have chosen a song, a new screen appears. Your score counter will be in the top corner, and in the centre of the screen is a dancing character. This character will make all the moves you are supposed to copy! With your Wii remote in your hand to pick up the motions, you need to copy the dance moves. You know whats coming by smaller scrolling pictures along the bottom of the screen which show you what moves are coming, and you do these as they hit the centre of the screen. By hitting the right moves, you're score will increase.
I love the soundtrack of this game! Songs liek Junior Senior - Move your Feet are fast and energetic to get you going, and theres great party tunes like the Monster Mash for a giggle. The new Just Sweat mode os fantastic, if Im using my Wii for keeping fit its nice to have a game like this that helps as well as the normal excercise of the Wii Fit games.
The only dowsnide to this game is just how difficult the scrolling pictures of the upcoming dance moves are to interpret! Sometimes what they look like they are doing is nothing like the dance move the main character on the screen does at all, and you end up in a flap trying to figure out what you are supposed to be doing. Its easier to follow the main character on the screen, the trouble is then you are out of synch and dont score well! The only solution to this is that after a few goes at a song, you know whats coming and can do it without the aid of the scrollers!
If your Wii is connected to the internet, you can make this game even better. Not only does the game come with a free bonus downlaod of Katy Perry's Firework, you can also download a range of other songs to play on the game.
