Just Dance 2. Nintendo Wii
** Just Dance 2 **
I received Just Dance 2 for my birthday in November 2010 off one of my friends who is always coming round for a dance session on the first Just Dance game, so with the release of the 2nd one just before my birthday this was the perfect gift and it gave us something to do during the evening of my birthday as at the time I really wasn't in a going out mood.
** In The Box **
Just Dance 2 comes in a normal white Wii box, the size of a DVD case. The cover of my copy of Just Dance 2 is holographic and when the box is moved from left to right it appears that the dancers pictured on the front of the box are dancing. Inside the box is the game disc along with an instruction manual for the game and also a separate manual containing safety instructions. The game instruction manual is written in English and is very clear and simple to follow, although you probably wont need them.
** The Set Up **
Setting up Just Dance 2 is simple. From the main menu you are given the choice of Warm Up and Main Game.
Warm up mode I thought would be as it sounds a warm up, so maybe some gentler and not so energetic songs? No, I was wrong, we selected warm up to start us off. The warm up consisted of 4 songs and instead of being nice and gentle to ease us into it, we found ourselves bouncing around the room in our usual style and by the end of our so called warm up we were heading to the kitchen for a nice cool drink!
If you select main game you can scroll through the songs and choose which one you want to play. On Just Dance 2 there are 44 songs available, my personal favourites are, Mardi Gras - Iko Iko, The Frighteners - The Monster Mash, The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back and Ike & Tina Turner - Proud Mary. I'm sure you're seeing my pretty cheesy taste in music by now!
The game also offers the option to choose Non-Stop play, selecting Non-Stop is like a full on work out! It is literally as it sounds, the songs play one after the other in a random order and you just keep dancing until you can dance no more.
There is an Exercise Mode on the game too which after my experience of Non-Stop I am too scared to try! Apparently the exercise mode will tell you how much energy you use while you are dancing. I can tell you this too... LOADS!
Once you have selected your song a loading screen will appear for a few seconds and then your song choice will start.
** Game play **
Once your song choice is loaded you need to point your remote at the little cloud shape above the meter where your score is kept, this will enable you to enter your name. You can choose from a fake name that is already pre-entered or you can enter your own name.
After name entry give your remote a little shake to make the cloud wobble, this shows you that your remote is being detected. Then press the A button and your song will begin.
Just like in the first Just Dance game you will see a dancer on the screen and again this dancer is your mirror image, so whatever the dancer on the screen does you must copy as if they are your reflection in the mirror.
Your moves are picked up by the Wii remote in your hand and you are scored according to how well you dance. In the first Just Dance I had problems with the remote not picking up all of the moves and so we were not getting scored for our fabulous dancing, while this is not entirely cured in the 2nd Just Dance I do have to admit there is definitely a marked improvement and the moves are detected a lot better which makes for a much better experience.
Once the song has ended there is a round of applause and your score is displayed on the screen. If you score the all time high score for your particular song then this will be displayed beneath the song along with your name on the song selection screen.
** Multiplayer **
Just Dance 2 can be played in multiplayer mode in exactly the same way as the single player with regards to game options like Warm up, Non-stop and simply just selecting the songs that you want to dance to.
A feature my friend and I particularly enjoy is that some of the songs in Just Dance 2 can be performed as Duets so instead of dancing the same moves as the other players you are dancing together. There are 2 dancers on the screen and you mirror one each, the first few times we did this we crashed into each other a lot and ended up with lots of laughter and a few bruises but now we've mastered it and although we still end up laughing there are less and less bruises happening!
** Controls **
The controls of the game are very easy, they are exactly the same as in the first Just Dance, you simply hold the wii remote in your hand to mirror the person on the screen and then copy their dancing.
** Graphics and Sound **
The graphics in the game are great, they are a vast improvement on the first game and although the first one is smooth, this one is smoother. The dancer on the screen who you are following always moves smoothly, and there is a little bar at the bottom giving you a pre-warning of the upcoming moves so there are no problems with you missing a move. The special effects for doing a great move are shown very well and look great.
The sound is of course great! The main bulk of the music in the game is the songs you are dancing to.
** Price and Availability **
I received this as a birthday present so I don't know the cost but at the moment on Play.com you can buy it for £13.99.
** My Experience and Opinion **
My experience of Just Dance 2 is always a good one. I find it to be great fun and it is good exercise too, even better for the winter months when, if like me, you don't enjoy going out in the cold to exercise you can just dance away at home.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: A great follow up to Just Dance
