Advantages: Fun, good value, inovative gameplay, cross generation appeal
Disadvantages: not quite as much fun as a light sabre, doesn't make full use of wii remote
Great fun, good value for money and a few jokes for the Batman fan boy.
I'm a huge fan of Batman and a fan of Lego Star Wars so I was really looking forward to playing this game. I was not disappointed thought it's not the same game play experience as Star Wars.
For some reason I didn't find the game quite as much fun as Lego Star Wars though there is no doubt that the game play is more varied and the level design is at least as good. Perhaps light sabers and force powers are simply more fun than Batarangs and kung fu.
Like Lego Star Wars the game is excellent for both single and two player play. Like Lego Star Wars it's great for both adults and children and has cross generational appeal. However Lego Batman makes even less use of the unique control style of the Wii.
The game is absolutely huge with a story mode and a free play mode for every level and each level playable as both Batman and Robin and a selection of super villains. In order to unlock all the content you first have to unlock all the playable characters and all the Batsuits and vehicles by playing through all the story mode levels both as Batman and the Villains.
This means that the game has two very different styles of game play. At first you play the game in the usual style of simply trying to complete the level. Everything is new, you have to find your way about and you are constantly learning new ways to use the different suits and the different villain abilities. Then you have the explorer style of play where you go through the familiar levels looking for the hidden extras.
I've been playing the game off and on for 4 months and I still haven't unlocked all the content so while the game isn't cheap it is excellent value for money.
Summary: In a word, huge.

- 28/08/09 Sounds interesting but kid friendly.. I have Wii and sadly that new Batman game, Arkham Asylum, which is apparently the greatest superhero game ever made.. isn't for that system.. =\ i'll have to settle for this. Seems fun but.. I dunno.. I just don't really like that lego thing. |
