I absolutely adore this game! I recently brought it and I think it's great! In this review I will tell you why I like it so much.
I will start of with the controls as these are really innovative on madden 07 for the wii. The controls really make the game lifelike, to throw the ball as the quarterback players have to make an actual throwing motion. To throw the ball quickly players have to make a quick motion while a really long ball can be done with a slower motion. When the player is running with the ball the A button is spin, a nunchuk shake is juke, while a push with the wii remote results in a stiff arm.
There are now mini games in madden, there are 3 in total. The first is rushing attack, in this the player controls the running back and has to try and escape the clutches of 2 linebackers with no other players on the pitch, this is definately my favourite. The second is 2 minute game, in which a player just plays a 2 minute version of a full lenght nfl game. The last I don't remember the name of, but it involves a quarterback and a reciever against 2 linebackers. The quarterback gets 10 seconds to throw the ball to the reciever who is being closely marked by one of the linebackers, the other linebacker can sack the quarterback once the 10 seconds is up.
The gameplay is pretty much the same as previous nfl games. The only other differences really are the stadiums and atmospheres, which provide a better gaming experience. The graphics on the other hand remain relatively unchanged.
The madden 07 game for wii is the best sports game I have played yet on the wii. It's available for £20-£30 and I would definately recommend that you buy it.
Madden 07 really has utilised the controls of the Nintendo Wii. You can stiff arm using your arms, throw by throwing the controller, and catch by simply throwing your arms up. But have the new controls got in the way of the game play? In short, no. In fact, they have enhanced it in some areas. Things such as side-stepping and stiff arms now become enjoyable to perform as you see your player respond to your actions. This game has definitely reached its potential for this year and I would recommend it to any American football fan.
However, even though the actions have become more satisfying, their reliability of them has also decreased. It can become very frustrating, running down the line, one man left, you try to sidestep, only to step the wrong way and out of bounds. Its rare, but it does
happen, and can become very frustrating.
Game play: Fantastic, for a while, and helped by the new Wii controls, but like most sports games it gets a bit repetitive after a while. Franchise mode is interesting, but after a while you just cant wait until the end of the season to sign new players and mess around with the team. Superstar mode however is a very good step up, if you on defence its tricky but rewarding, offence is not so tricky, but still good fun to play, especially as a running back. 7/10
Lifetime: really not very long and you will be finding yourself switching teams very often. Very repetitive and the novelty of the Wii controls wares off. 3/10
Graphics: Very good, I was quite impressed by the level of detail and realism put into the game. They really help to enhance the game play. 9/10
Multi-player: reasonable, but you both have to be American football fans. It takes a while for each play to take place as of the selection process unique to the Wii (the point and select) and it can get a bit confusing sometimes. Also your friend will have to get used to the controls before you can truly enjoy playing against him/her. 6/10
This game started well for me, fun, good use of controls, good graphics, but it quickly wore off and I found myself being bored with the repetitiveness of the whole process. It is really only a game for avid football fans but for everyone else I would not recommend it.
