Advantages: Great gameplay, controls and graphics, mini games are brilliant
Disadvantages: There aren't any
Let me start off by saying that I think that this is the best madden game I have ever played, and also the best wii sports game I have ever owned. It may not have graphics to match the ps3 and xbox 360 versions, but the gameplay and controls allow it to preceed the other two console games. I will tell you soon what my reasons for enjoying it so much are.
The controls make it brilliant, really utilising the wii remote and nunchuk well. To throw the ball you simply swing the remote in a throwing motion while clicking a button on the wii remote depending on which player you intend to throw it to. Also to throw the ball in a darted pass you swing the remote more violently, but a long pass will require a soft throwing motion. All this added together makes for amazingly realistic gameplay that is very enjoyable.
The gameplay is far beyond what I expected. There are around 10-15 different plays for each section, and each can be reversed to opposite mode. This means there are 100-150 different plays for both attacking and defending, before they are even reversed. All this means that there is much more variety in gameplay and yet again makes the game feel more realistic. The running on the other hand is in my opinion absolutely amazing. Running is speedy and action packed, spins are fluid, and jinxes and dodges have never been so agile. The running mode of the game really is very enjoyable, especially with a friend. Go for long balls I don't enjoy as much, but I still think that it works very well. The long balls work well and the timing needed makes for realistic catching.
The graphics are great. The colours are bright and contrast well, while the players look fluid and un-boxy in any way. The player faces especially look well detailed and uncontorted, if I saw a player from the game without being told who he was I would probably be able to tell who he is in real life, which you can't do with many sports games.
The tournament mode here is the same as previous version in the madden line, which is not that important. It is the mini games that I love so much though. My favourite is probably running practice, in which you control the running back from your chosen team, you also have a blocker to aid you but you have to face off against 2 defenders on an open pitch. This game is great fun especially with friends, as both players have a go at attacking and also have to defend.
All in all I can't really fault this madden. It just works so well and everything in it is well thought out. The gameplay and controls are the real X factor here though, and just the game excel past other sports games. This is easily my favourite sports game on the wii, it surpasses fifa by a mile. 5 stars well done.
Summary: One of my favourite wii games
