Advantages: Easy to play, Commentary is good, Gory, funny and very adult.

Disadvantages: Too easy, Context sensitive controls can mess up some times.

MadWorld - Wii

MadWorld is an interestingly weird game with huge amounts of blood and on the black and white background it looks spectacular. But eventually I think it becomes repetitive and boring. This is a great monochromatic style game, reminds me of sin city, with random splashes of colour to accent the gameplay, this is great and I don't fully understand why it became boring. But I will try to explain...

MadWorld's main problem is its lack of depth, when you first start the game is quirky and fun, playing off stereotyped characters, conventions and themes. Its like SmashTV, Manhunt and Sin City put together. The game is stylish, gory and funny it is also fairly easy to play and another redeeming feature is that theres blood everywhere.

Conceptually it's very old school a basic beat em up, occasionally varying enemies and bosses which play out more like puzzles than fights. The level construction and respawning enemies allow you to flow from fight to fight, from enemy to enemy as you can easily remember health pack locations and find weapons with ease thanks to basic layouts and a decent heads up display.

Fighting itself is a basic combination of nunchuk and wiimote control and in many different situations the same movement will produce wildly varying effects. With the A and B buttons players can tear an enemy to shreds with the chainsaw (a bit like gears of war...) or grab and throw them around the surroundings. The camera can be unhelpful sometimes, but the game is easy to get to grips with.

The controls on the Wii are extremely simplistic which is where it can also get boring, the contextually focused attacks mean a quick waggle will have you throwing people in front of trains, slamming them through toilets and ripping them apart with all manner of weaponry. But this is the reason why its not a great game all you end up doing is waving your arms around madly, theres no real skill involved; not a great thing to do to a potentially awesome game.

The games plot is that the main character is an ultra bad-ass in a dystopian city which hates him. It's definitely a throw away story not something you'll find yourself recalling in detail for very long afterwards but it's well told and the voice acting is great.

I enjoy working out the light puzzles and I love the commentary but still the game seems almost condescending in its simplicity. If toilet humour and slapstick comedy doesn't outright turn you off, MadWorld is definitely worth a look in some way.

Summary: I don't really think the gameplay is that great as its far too simple, try for the GORE!
