The iconic game that we all grew to love in Nintendo's previous console editions has made a comeback on the Wii. It is rare for updated games such as this to make it to the big stage over and over again, but that is exactly what Mario Kart has done.
Part of the reason that the Mario Kart Wii has done so well is the fact that the developers did not change a winning formula. Granted there are many gameplay changes, new tracks, cars, characters and modes, but the fundamental principles were kept the same. In fact, the design of most of the classic tracks down to the fine detail was left largely unchanged. While some may think that this is lazy on behalf of Nintendo, this is the precise reason why the game was so successful.
It is impossible to think of another console game which has even come close to being as popular with large parties of people with different likes and interests. The game is smartly designed to ensure nobody is left out as weaker players are boosted to catch up and stronger players are continually penalised.
Having owned the game for two years, it has not grown to become boring. The extensive range of gameplay modes and targets to achieve mean you keep coming back for more week after week. Perhaps the most successful addition to the game is the online levels published weekly which have kept the interest of the masses in the game going. Most enthusiasts, just like me, logged in regularly just to try out the latest one-off level and compete against the entire planet.
Skill-wise, this game always allows you to perfect yourself further. The manual mode is incredibly difficult to master, yet the benefits can be staggering.
All in all, this is a great game that I would recommend to anybody of any age and with any interests. A definite all-time winner!
Summary: If you are going to buy one game to play on your own, with your friends or online, go get Mario Kart
