Mario Kart with Wii Wheel - Wii Remote Not Included (Wii)
Advantages: Easy enough for kids but tasking enough for adults
The Mario Kart with Wii Wheel was the first game we went out and bought after buying the Wii. It was released in 2008 and is still in the top Wii games chart 4 years on! We decided to buy it as the adverts had made it look so much fun and suitable for all the family. With Christmas coming we thought it would be ideal to play as a group.
The game and Wii Wheel is presented in a white cardboard box. On the front are Mario and Luigi holding Wii Wheels with "Mario Kart" in Silver. Inside you get the game in a Wii Plastic Case with the same image. In the box is also the Wii Wheel. At the time of release the game was around £32 which included the wheel. You can now buy this set for around £29.
The Wii Wheel
The Wii Wheel is a white plastic steering wheel, which in size is just slightly bigger than a Wii remote in diameter (can now also be purchased in black). It has a compartment on the centre which holds your Wii remote. To use the wheel you have to thread the Wii remote's wrist strap through the hole and then push in the remote. Whilst the remote is in the wheel you can still access al the buttons on the front and the wheel has a hole for the 'B' button to fit though. The wheel is very light and compact which makes it easy to hold. When using the wheel it does take a while to get used to it if you have been playing racing games just holding the remote. You can be tempted to be throwing the wheel from side to side but often a little tilt or turn is enough....but then again where's the fun in that lol!
Mario Kart Game
The game has a total of 32 different tracks. You can play your way through these in many variations such as:-
In each set of races you can pick from Bikes, GoKarts, Buggy's and cars as well as some novelty options such as a pram! Each mode of transport has its strong and weak points so a fast gokart may not be ideal for a snowy track! You get to pick from you favourite Mario character and can even use you Mii's. The race options are endless where each race can give you boosts and special gifts to both help and hinder your race! When playing through the cups, the more you win the more you can unlock! With the Mario Kart game you can have up to 4 players on multiplayer games but can race against up to 11 players via Wi-Fi
The controls are easy to learn and make it easier to manoeuvre around fellow racers. You can quickly learn tricks to help you race and even shortcuts if you look closely! The graphics are excellent for the type of game this is. The game loads quickly and the menu's are straightforward and concise. Some tracks are very easy such as Mario's Raceway but other like the Gold Mine are really tasking and I end up spending more time off the track than on. But whatever track you pick you are bound to have a good laugh with family and friends. It is a very addictive and enjoyable game!
Summary: A great family game!
