Advantages: A great workout
Disadvantages: Can be a bit difficult keeping up with the moves
I hate going to the gym and love any workout which fools me into thinking i am not really working out or persuades me that working out is enjoyable.
I used to do a bit of kickboxing with a personal trainer and it was excercise I actually enjoyed, even with the sweating, pain and absolute exhaustion.
a friend who knew I loved the boxing bought me My Fitness Coah Cardio Workout for the Wii as it mainly consists of boxing excercises.
I had tried the boxing excercise on the Wii Fit and found it faily enjoyable though not paricularly challenging - more a warm up excercise, so was interested to see what this would have to offer.
The game can be used with or without the balance board and I generally play without as it is much simpler. The balance board just gives you too much to think about.
When you start the game you select your on screen character and start with the basics to get used to the types of excercises available. I did find the menu somewhat confusing as there are several headings and to change to a different menu you have to retrace your steps a lot and it is easy to get confused as to where you are and how to get where you want to go.
In one of the menus you can choose from a variety of background tunes on a jukebox so you can select the orkout muic to suit you.
As well as boxing, the game does provide training excercises such as skipping and jogging- as you progress through the game you open different types of excercise.
I foudn the skipping particularly difficult as you basically jump as you would when you are skipping and hold a Wii remote in each hand and move them as you would if you were holding the handles of a skipping rope. It proved quite difficult to keep up the rhythm and not trip over the virtual rope. It is also absolutely knackering.
When starting on the boxing, you begin with the basic training level which shows you how to do the basic punches eg jab, cross and then the on screen trainer takes you through a variety of combinations which increase in difficulty as you progress through the levels.
When you feel ready you can take an exam where you are set a series of combinations and have to acheive a minimum score to pass.
The first couple of stages are fairly easy, if tiring, but as you move up the combinations get harder with more punches as well as ducking and blocking. While all this is going on you are also expected to do the little dancy thing that boxers do which in itself is very tiring!
You win vrtual money based on your performance and can buy yourself new equipment and outfits.
This is an excellent cardio workout as it really gets your heart rate up and it feels like you really have done a workout as opposed to some fitness games which may be fun, but don't make you feel like you have really had to work an sometimes it is good to have that muscle burning, heart racing, red faced feeling.
Definitely not for you if you don't have a good level of fitness as you would probably find yourself with spots in front of your eyes.
Summary: Great cardio workout
