Seeing as the tennis game is my favourite game on the Nintendo Wii in the Wii Sports game I was on the lookout for some other tennis games when I came across Racket sports party. I already had the regular Sports Party game which I like and so decided to have a look at this and ultimately bought it as it was offered at a good price. I think racket sports are some of the most fun on the Wii as they seem to be the game everybody can play quite easily but it is still quite challenging and produces a lot of laughs. If you ever got to see my mum swinging her imaginary tennis racket int he middle of our living room you would know what I mean.
This racket sports game includes 5 different racket games namely, tennis, table tennis, squash, badminton and beach tennis. We have the plastic tennis rackets that attaches to your controller so this makes the tennis games even more fun as you feel like you are actually swinging a real tennis racket and watching it on the screen. I think the responsiveness of this game is quite good, generally when you swing your racket, whichever one it may be it translates onto the screen pretty quickly and the sound also helps with this as for example you get a nice smash sound when you hit the tennis ball and the noise of the crowd really spurs you on too with all the roaring and cheering.
I think the thing that really makes this game stand out from the original tennis game is the graphics. They are actually really good on this game and fun to choose different locations and playing surfaces. The colours are really bright and striking and I think the Mii characters have really evolved from the original Mii's to look a bit more lifelike even if they are still a bit cartoonish! There are actually 40 different locations to play in. For example one of my favourites is the squash game played inside a big aquarium as you can see all the fish swimming by whilst you are hitting the squash ball against a glass wall. The beach tennis is great as obviously it is played on a lovely golden sandy beach and makes you think you are actually on holiday playing a nice game of tennis. Other locations include a cruise ship, a lot of Japanese influenced locations and a casino in Las Vegas.
As long as you remember which Mii character you are you will not be confused. As with most two player/4 player games on the Wii the screen is split so win you look at the television you can see both players, you just have to remember if you are on the right hand side or left hand side or at the top or at the bottom. You actually have the option to customise your character in different clothes, looks etc and that is fun also in addition to playing the game. When you win you are presented with a nice gold shiny trophy which is fun to hold aloft and see the characters get all excited.
Table tennis on Wii sports resort is another favourite of mine and this one in my opinion was just as good. The four player option is really fun but a little crowded as you al try to take your shots. The table tennis can be a little tricky at the beginning as I find the controls are quite sensitive on this game but once you get the knack of it it works well. My tip for this game would be to always keep your table tennis bat flat and in the middle of the screen so with a quick flick you can go right or left as required.
If you are a fan of racket games then I definitely recommend this game to you.
