It wasn't until late last year that I jumped on the Wii fad. My friend loves it and every time I would go round her house we would end up playing this very game in the front room. The fact that I frequented it so much should've been a big tell tale sign that I would eventually get a Wii and this game to boot, but I guess I was just a little too blasé to realise at the time. Eventually my family joined in, which every other family in the country seemed to be doing, and purchased a Nintendo Wii and then later I got this game too.
Rayman is a weird little orange floating body with head and white trainers for feet that sit on the ground seemingly attached without any legs. Its actually a pretty popular game so I hear, but I never bothered to play it, despite it being out as a franchise since 1995. In some of the other Raving Rabbids game, Rayman the character has actually appeared, or even been the main character of the game, and the rabbids have in turn appeared in some of 'his' previous games also. So, despite being called 'Rayman Raving Rabbids', Rayman doesn't actually appear all that often (other than as a kind of 'plot' wherein he is running away from the little Rabbid creatures) but I digress, this stems from his previous appearances in some of the other games and his short cameo-esque involvement here. The Rabbids are just a spin off from the original platform game and yet this time they dictate the action and you play as them instead.
Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party was released in 2008. The game supports the Wii Balance Board accessory, however I don't own this so I play without. From my friends experience, I hear this does add an interesting component to the game, but for someone like me who is pretty clumsy and awkward, I don't think I'd get as much enjoyment out of the game if I did play with one. Several games support the use of the balance board and involve the use of your whole body to play. It requires use of the wii remote as well as the nun-chuck so it great in a sense for improving coordination. When you first begin to play (if you're like me) you can feel a little overwhelmed at the pace of some of the games, but thats what makes it so entertaining as it really does challenge you.
The name sums up the game in that it really is a TV party. It features mini games which you can choose by clicking on a particular 'channel'. Each channel is pretty distinctive and entertains very different themes for that particular mini game, such as snow boarding, boxing and playing as part of a Rabbids band. Lightning transports the Rabbids through different channels, and acts as the 'thing' that stops them from chasing Rayman as they suddenly become distracted by it.
Other options for things to do for fun include the 'Pimp My Rabbid' section. Here you can dress up and paint your Rabbid character in any way you want and then send it off for fun via your Wii. A website dedicated to the Raving Rabbids Tv Party hosts a Hall of Fame for characters created, and this would probably be a fun activity for children to go through, to see all the weird and wonderful creations of other gamers. I'm pretty boring and my Rabbid character is very plain with only a squid on his head!
I bought mine secondhand from Game for about £10 and you can grab yourself one from Amazon for about that price also. Due to its age it isn't all that expensive for a Wii game, which brand new can be expensive as £40! The price range from what I've seen tends to be between £7-15 which is very reasonable in my opinion.
This is an excellent game for kids and big kids, who want to get the most out of their Wii and enjoy the full Wii experience. It really does involve the use of your whole body and you feel as though you're getting a little work out as you do it, or at least if you're unfit like me you do! It can get very competitive in multiplayer which is always fun, and the games are challenging without being too difficult at the same time. For a game most likely aimed at kids, its more weird than childlike, with the Rabbids speaking in gibberish and their favourite thing to say being "bwaaah". This is definitely a game I would recommend.
Summary: An interesting game for people looking for lots of activity in their Wii-ing!
