Sports Island for the Nintendo Wii will definatley bring out your competitive side! You will shoot, run, skate, volley your way though this familiy friendly game. The games include, Badmitton, kart racing, figure skating, foot ball and archery, which are all controlled by your wii remote and numchuck, as if your actually in the game! You can pick the team you want to play as and you can also select a specific character in your team to play the selected game. You can change the difficultly level of each game, but i have found that the figure skating game is really quite difficult, even on the easy level, the different twists, turns and jumps are quite difficult and not easy for younger children. The graphics are 'cartoonish' and they are not very smooth. Also the game can sometimes be prone to 'freezing' and stopping, But this maybe different on your console. I would not recomend this game for younger children, as they might not be able to play the game well, and may get bored.
i purchased sports island after enjoying wii sports so much but was a little disapointed the graphics are not great and the games are quite boring on the other hand there is alot of variety. The circuit races follow very plain routes with very bare environmental decorationin the Ice Skating you use the nunchuck to skate and you twist the remote to perform spins and jumps, admittedly this control system works very well but any potential for freedom of expression is quickly snatched away by the rigid requirement that you must follow a pre-set path and do pre-set jumps in a pre-set order. having said all that it generally is a fun game if your not expecting too much compared to the wii sports the game is not great but i think if it was the first wii game id played its an all round fun game with lots of variety.
This is the first wii game I have brought which I have not liked and enjoyed, I found setting it up very easy so it was a good start but the first game I played on it was badmington which for some reason I just could not get on with I then tried the ice skating and could not get my cvharacter to go the route I wanted it to and found the controls very difficult even though the buttons you need to press are very straightforward the game just doesnt seem to respond to you. My fiance enjoyed the game initially but he soon got bored of it as there isnt much you can do with it once you have played all of the sports to him they were very standard and boring. I felt overall that the game just didnt give the realistic feel I get from other Wii games and found it was a bit of a pointless game needless to say it is now gathering dust on our shelf. I think this game is maybe a bit more practical for younger children who want to have a mess around on the wii.
I went shopping to Asda with my daughter and my Partner, Our Mission: A new game for the wii so after a lot of soul searching on the shelves we came across sports island it was £17.00 there so we thought it sounded good as we already had the original sports game which we all thouroughly enjoy! There are a lot of games on sports island which are quite enjoyable I found the badminton to be similar to tennis on the original game but I found the curling to be quite good once I got the hang of it I also enjoyed the fact that even if you were playing on your own it was still a competitive game against the other team! The ice skating was very enjoyable too! Although overall I did find the game to be enjoyable and I have had many a happy night playing it and the graphics were very good, I was a little dissapointed to find it more computerized and less active than the original sports game. Still a fairly good game tho!!!
Ok it's not Wii Sports which has raised the bar for lots of games but Sports Island seems good enough. I recently bought this and spent a good part of the day playing it and having lots of fun. There are numerous games let's see there is, motorcycling, snowboarding and go carts to name three. Yes, they appear to be abit basic but so what, they are fast and great fun to race each other in these games. There is Archery which is good and also ice skating which my daughters friends particularly enjoy and I do to. Really all the games are good wholesome family fun nothing too heavy or too demanding. They can be short and fairly simple but you can also tweak each game to vary the level of play, for instance 3 modes of play beginner, normal or advanced levels. The controls and playability is not manic but fairly laid back which is no problem and the animation, is straight forward and importantly clear and colourful and the kids love it. Essentially it's good straight forward games that all the family can play and enjoy, abit like watching the Waltons on a Sunday afternoon. Ahhhhh
My 8yr old son bought Sports Island for the wii 2 weeks ago. It is a great game for his age. Sports Island has 10 different sport games to play so you are bound to find something you like. My personal favourite is the figure skating where you use the nunchuk to move the skater round the ice and swing the remote to make the skater do fancy moves. The other sports games are Badminton, Kart Racing, Curling, Snowboardcross, Archery, Supercross, Beach Volleyball, Basketball and Football. The football is very popular with my son and his friends. Up to 4 people can play at the one time competing against each other or as a team. It is a good game for the price (It cost £19.99 on it's own but was part of the 2 for £30 deal at Argos) and definately one for the kids, I would say aimed at under 12's. The controls during gameplay are quick to learn and simple to use for children.
This game was very very cheap at launch, so I should have known better. My kids really wanted something to play over the half term holiday and this was all the budget would allow. Well, what a lousy game. Even my nine year old sneered at the babyish chunky pixelated graphics. We fired up football and was presented with characters that crawled at a snails pace across the screen. Go Karting was a very poor take on Mario Kart. When I refer to Mario Kart I mean a poor take on the N64 version. How a publisher can create such a poor game I don't know. I guess it could be aimed at a REALLY young audience, or perhaps really OLD where the reactions might be about two seconds slower. I cannot recommend this game to anyone, save your money and buy a decent sports game or Mario Kart instead. I guess you get what you pay for on this one.
Just played " Sports Island " and I think it is very good. The first game I went on was Badminton, the graphics were good as was the gameplay, I really liked how you could do smash shots when the shuttlecock turned red, Kart Racing was next, I found this a bit hard to control at first but once I got used to it I found it a bit of a laugh. Curling, Again the graphics were good but I was rubbish at this, I liked the action and the movement of the sweepers who helped your stone along. I also liked the arm movement as though you were actually pushing the stone. Supercross, to my amazement I was actually pretty good at, The controls were pretty easy to remember, again the graphics were good, I did think maybe the laps could be a bit longer. Snowboardcross had cool graphics again, The controls for this were quite easy to manage and remember. Beach Volleyball, This was another game I enjoyed playing , The sand looked realalistic with footfalls when your player moved, Again the controls were easy to use. Figure Skating, The graphics were good, I did find it a bit hard at first to follow the markers on the ice to achieve the goals. But with practice I think I might make it to the winter olympics. Football, was alright for a laugh but I do prefer Fifa 08 with what I like to call real players, Basketball, This I enjoyed, I thought the overall gameplay to be quick and the graphics again were very good. Archery, This was my overall favorite I loved the way you had to pull back your controller as though you were pulling back the bow. You then have a time limit of 10 seconds to line up your sights, not forgetting to take the wind direction into consideration as well. All In all I can highly recommend Sports Island as value for money with Its 10 Jump, Smash, Shoot and Win games, Highly entertaining and fun to play with a few friends on a Sunday afternoon.
