Advantages: Great new ideas and lots of variety

Disadvantages: None

Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii is quite simply the best platform game ever created and has raised the bar for all other developers to try and reach.

Fans of Nintendo will have almost certainly played a Super Mario platform game before and will have no doubt have been looking forward to this latest version with unparalled excitement. If, like me they have finished the game, they will no doubt be extremely pleased with what they have experienced.

As with all previous Super Mario games, the key factor is not the graphics, although in this case the graphics are bright, exciting and fit the mood perfectly, but more the playability. Galaxy has that in spades.

The learning curve of the game is just right, meaning that the various challenges get harder and harder as the game goes along at just the right pace. The levels vary from races to boss battles right through to the classic Mario star and coin collecting.

With all the natural platform aspects in there, Nintendo decided that just making that game wasn't enough. They needed something to shock the gaming world, in a good way obviously, and that spawned the galaxy idea. The game is made up of lots of planets that each have their own characteristics, notebly the gravity. Each planet's gravity and moon network make them all vastly different challenges.

The control system and beautiful intreraction between the characters only serves to emphasise its appeal over any other game in this genre. The Wii remote is used for much more than moving Mario around.

The game comes to a natural end with boss battles as most Mario games do, but that may or may not be the end. You'll have to find that out for yourself.

Summary: You have to have this game, no matter what!
