Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Advantages: great story line, fun levels, new suits
Disadvantages: none really for me!
Mario Galaxy for the Wii is a Platforming game that was released in 2007 by Nintendo. This game follows the same storyline as many of the other Platform Mario games, you start off your journey to save Princess Peach from the evil Bowser, who just loves capturing poor Peach.
Here is a bit about the plot in this game:
A comet is passing over the Mushroom Kingdom so Princess Peach decides to have a party and watch it, Mario are present at this party and Bowser takes the opportunity to move in for his attack and with the help of a futuristic flying saucer Bowser lifts Princess Peaches castle up into outer space. Mario tries and fails to rescue the Princess and ends up being hurled into space where is crash lands and wakes up on a strange planet. This is where he meets Rosalina and the Lumas, they have the power to allow Mario to travel through the stars and space, however he needs to collect Power Stars (which have been stolen by Bowser) to restore Rosalina's Power to its full capacity so then Mario can reach the Princess at the other side of the galaxy... and the game begins!
I really enjoyed the story throughout this game, it was good as it stayed true to the usual Mario story line, though it has been modernised and changed to make it more interesting, every Mario fan enjoys saving the Princess from Bowser and being the hero and this game provides just that.
The controls on this game are quite easy to master, the interface is also not to hard to understand or navigate through. This game is 3d play, this means that Mario is free to move anywhere on the screen (not just from left to right), this was quite confusing for me when I first played this game but it is easy to get used to.
You meet a lot of Mario's old enemies in this game and there are also a few new ones introduced. Also there are (like many of the Mario Platforming games) Power ups such as the old mushrooms and fire flowers, there is also a new Bee suit that allows Mario to fly/hover for a number of time, a Boo Suit that allows Mario to float in the air and become transparent like the Boo ghost and Spring Suit that allows Mario to jump to great heights.
You can play this game multiplayer up to 2 players, Mario and Luigi play co-operatively and move through levels together, this is a good feature as it means players won't have to wait for their turn and you can play with another person together at the same time. This is great as me and my fiancé normally turn into big children and fight over who will play first when we are playing games.
The graphics on this game are what you would expect from the Nintendo Wii, they are bright colourful and cartoon styled, they could be described as quite child-like compared to games available on the Xbox or Playstation, but I think that this is what attracts Nintendo fans as games are light hearted and fun to play/look at.
The music on this game is motivating and gets you pumped up to participate in the races. It is upbeat and has a fast tempo and is not out of place compared to what you would normally find in a Nintendo game.
You should be able to pick up this game in any Game, HMV or Gamestop locally, or if you can also purchase it on the internet. I bought this game for around £20 in HMV as this was the best deal at the time, however I bought this about 6 months ago so I think that it hopefully may have decreased a bit in price. I can see this game for as cheap as £13 on the internet so if you don't mind having to wait on it, you may save some money buying it online. I got a lot of play time out of this game and think it was a great buy.
Overall I think this is a great Mario game, there is a really entertaining storyline that fans will enjoy, I really enjoyed playing through this game and saving the Princess. I think that this game was well worth the money, though once you have completed it, it gets kind of boring. Apart from this I would recommend this game to any Mario fan or to anyone who enjoys platform style games. I give this game 4 out of 5 and really enjoy playing it with my fiancé and the family.
