Advantages: a genuine shoot em up
Disadvantages: can be confusing (for me) at times
I am a self proclaimed Xbox widow..I bought a Wii in desperation, hoping i would be able to play games with my boyfriend, but was horrified at the appalling selection of games!
Cue House of the Dead: Overkill..
I am a child of the 80's, shooting stuff on playstation games and occassionally in arcades at skegness was my idea of fun, i idolised duke nukem and was a crack shot on virtual cop so was happy to see they had bought out a good old fashioned shoot em up!
My boyfriend was eager to get this game, he used to skip school to play through the original housse of the dead with his school friends!
Synopsis:
You are one of two men (one each is playing co-op) you play through a series of levels that follow classic horror stories, eg, it came from outter space, that kind of thing.
Obviously its a point and shoot game, so it is much more fun if you have one of the gun peripherals, word of advice some of the guns on the market have a trigger at the front..very strange, after much ranting and raving at the gun with trigger on the front my boyfriend bought a new gun that uses a catch to pull the trigger on the wii remote when you fire the gun, he found it much easier to pretend he was a zombie killer from behind the sofa with a "proper" (his words) gun.
So, you work through the levels, a good addition to this game is that you can play it co-op without having split screen as the game directs you towards a rather fast approaching hoard, you simply aim your gun at it and shoot! the screen will have 2 crosshairs (again if co-op) which can be a bit confusing and i often found myself going "DUUUUUHHH i thought i was you" whilst getting chomped, now would also be a good time to mention that you can have up to four players all playing co-op, even more confusion!
For those of you that are fans of Quentin Taranteno movies, the style of this game iss very similar...80's cheese, gritty, funny. The characters are agent G, we don't know what the G stands for and Detective washington, G seems to be a ladies man whilst washington is a very harsh tongued whitty man, together they make for glorious banter and blood shed.
later on in the game we meet Ms guns, a woman with big boobs on a fast bike hell-bent on revenge.
so there we have it, zombies, characters with attitude, big boobs, fast bikes and not to mention the ice cream van and strange villain!
Its worth a play, once you have finished the main stories there are also the mini games to try, i must admit im a rubbish shot, but it true bloke style i will blame the gun i have because its not a proper one!!
Summary: well worth buying
