We have recently bought a Wii for the second time, hoping to play it a little more than we did the last time, now that our children are old enough to join in. Like a woman possessed, I've been on a mission to find new games that we can all enjoy as a family. We play Singstar on the Playstation quite a lot, and have built up quite a collection of songs which we have downloaded from the Playstation network, however we didn't have anything for the Wii. Although we like Singstar and the songs we have, the songs which you can pay for and download on the network are something like £1.15 each and the songs aren't always new releases. When I saw somebody was selling this game on the Intranet at my work and they only wanted £10 for it, I thought I'd buy it so we could have some new songs to sing.
We already had microphones from Rock Hero which are compatible with this game, so we could start playing it straight away. We all enjoyed the game, and it was fun as we could all join in as four players can play at once (providing you have four microphones! - which we did).
The track list on the game is fairly good for a standalone disc and seems to have something for most musical tastes. The songs include:
Lady Gaga - Poker Face
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Lilly Allen - The Fear
Tom Jones - Delilah
Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion
UB40 - Red Red Wine
Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own
Charles and Eddie - Would I Lie To You?
Sugababes - Girls
One Republic (Featuring Timbaland) - Apologize
Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
The Automatic - Monster
Duffy - Mercy
Madness - Our House
James Morrison & Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings
Aqua - Barbie Girl
Blondie - One Way Or Another
Chesney Hawkes - One and Only
Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha
Shampoo - Trouble
Spice Girls - Wannabe
Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite
Moloko - Sing It Back
Elton John and Kiki Dee - Don't Go Breaking My Heart
John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads
Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot
Meatloaf - I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
The Police - Every Breath You Take
The songs include original videos so is pretty much like the SingStar for the PlayStation, and you have the option to play by yourself or in Party of Karaoke modes. Party modes includes various game plays such as Pass the Mike - this is quite funny as you must pass the mike without missing notes and this takes the competitive edge away for those who take it too seriously! Party mode also includes Versus and Group Battle, both of which are fairly self explanatory, and there is also a game play which allows the first player to reach 5000 points to beat their opponent.
Karaoke play is good old fashioned singing and is great fun when you have friends around. There is also a feature on this game that allows you to line up your favourite songs by adding them to a playlist feature and the menu is really easy to navigate around, and access songs quickly. This is important when you are really getting into it and just want another song on quickly, you don't want to be having to come in and out of menus, and you don't with this game - something I really like.
If there is more than one player, you can choose which singer you would like to be, something which follows on from SingStar on the PlayStation, but you only get this option with a handful of songs unlike this game.
Overall a great game with some good songs. Unlike the PlayStation game however, you cannot download extra songs.
