Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Wii)

Rating:

Advantages: Great to play alone or with friends, good variety of games, balance board fun feature

Disadvantages: Hardly any, sometimes the balance board doesn't sync

I was given the Wii Fit Plus game and Balance Board when I first purchased my Wii, which was really handy as this was the game that my mum wanted the Wii for in the first place. Many reviews had been saying how great it had been for losing weight and keeping fit, and after constantly seeing adverts about it, it was finally decided that we just had to purchase the Wii Fit. However, I have seen by itself the Wii fit board plus the game are around £50 - £60.

The average age for play is about 3, and for the game I'd say this is a great rating, as the games are quite easy to understand and you are basically the controller throughout the game, through using the Wii Fit Board. Only one person can play on this game at a time, as there are no multiplayer features that allow you to play the same game at the same time, this can be quite dissapointing if you were looking forward to excercising as a family. Not only will you need a Balance Board to play, but you will also need a Wii remote and Nunchuck to in some of the games available.

The graphics are great on this game, and are similar to any of the Wii game series. Throughout the game, it maintains its bright, eyecatching and clear. It is really easy to see what the instructions are telling you on the Yoga positions and the graphics always respond really well to the controls you provide for them.

The balance board is really easy to set up, as all you have to do is sync it the same as how you would sync the Wii remote. It always recognises your body weight, although sometimes it does malfunction and require you to get off for a couple of seconds while it tries to reconnect again. The design of it is really well done, as it is quite slim allowing for it to be placed in a cupboard or underneath a tv cabinet with ease. Also, the rough texture at the bottom of your feet is very handy, as it stops you from slipping off. The only problem I really had with the Wii board was the fact that if the one you purchased was the colour white, it gets dirty really clearly and you can always see if it has.

The game itself is great fun and a great way to incorporate some light excercise into your day and can help those who are looking to restart their excercise regime, get back into their routines and increase their health at the same time. You can set up your own character profile based on your Mii profile, and track your progress with them. This is a great feature for those who want to stay fit, as it shows you how long you've excercised for that day, how many calories you've burnt, gives you a daily body test to see if your improving and can show you your BMI.

There is a variety of games for everyone to enjoy from the hula hooping games, to the balancing snowball games and the kung fu moves game. Every game has a different level so whatever your mood or fitness level you will be able to play, extremely handy in my house where everyone has different ages and gaming abilities. Aside from having the ability to pick up different games and just start playing, you can also customise your own routines, which I found very helpful as I made different routines for different moods, as you can select the games and yoga positions you really need to improve on or just love playing.

If you want to play Multiplayer with your family, there is an option to. Although, you will all have to take it in turns for people to play the games, it can be relatively fun as you watch them do random movements and try and beat their high scores! When you play on Multiplayer, it is also similar to the fact in that they can select their own Miis and play as them to.

Overall, the Wii Fit game is as fun single player as it is on multi player, and a great way of staying fit with fun games that will keep you wanting to excercise. The balance board makes a great addition as it is loads of fun actually being the controller and shifting your body weight to control things. With a handy tracker to keep your excercise regime in line, this is a must have for any fitness freak.

Summary: Great game for those who want to keep fit or just want a new type of gameplay with balance board
