Advantages: A good introduction and better than no exercise at all

Disadvantages: Slow progression through exercises, poor selection of aerobics

We got the Wii Fit and Balance Board for Christmas last year, and I would say that the Wii Fit is less of a game and more of a taster for the Balance Board.

The Balance Board is a sophisticated bit of equipment as well as a lot of fun and Wii Fit has a decent selection of Yoga and Muscle exercises, some good balance games and some pretty poor Aerobic exercises.

The main problem is that it takes so long to actually do any exercise. You can't pre-select a workout programme so you have to go back to the menu each time, choose the next exercise and wait while it loads and the instructer waffles a bit, then you have to wait at the end for a bit more waffling and your score before moving on to the next exercise. I think Nintendo have now acted on this feedback and released the Wii Fit Plus game which as far as I can tell from the advert has a pre-select programme feature and some new balance games and that's about it.

It is good that everything is recorded as that is motivating to get on and do something to build up your time and to have another go to try and beat a record. What is not motivating is having an instructer telling you to make your movements more lively or move more dynamically. I think I'm being pretty lively and these phrases which keep getting repeated don't mean anything to me.

There are some new games out there which develop the gym-style concept with exercises and programmes and I would like to see 'games' focussing on specific activities like Yoga or Step Aerobics and doing them really well.

Summary: I'm looking forward to some new balance board exercise games

I know what you mean - but you're right that it's great for beginners, who don't get daunted by a full routine all at once!
