Wii Sports Resort with Wii MotionPlus Accessory (Wii)

Advantages: Lots of mini games, good fun

Disadvantages: some games are a bit rubbish

When my friend was selling her wii she came to me to offer me first choice on any of the games which they had to get rid of. A game which my son always enjoyed playing on at my friend's house was the Wii sports resort game and so I decided I would buy that one off her.

Wii sports resort was introduced along with the wii motion plus accessories which could be added to the end of the wii remote apparently making the remote more sensitive to movement and so I bought the two motion plus accessories from my friend too along with the game so we could play this. You do need to have the accessories to play this game but it does come with one of the motion plus accessories when you buy the game and so you would only need to buy one more should you wish to play the games in multiplayer form.

My son and I really enjoyed playing on the wii sports game which came with our wii when we bought it and wii sports resort is basically an extension of that game offering more variety of games to play along with a more sensitive gaming experience as you use the motion plus accessory. Loading the game is much the same as any other wii game in that you insert it and then click on the icon when it appears on the main menu. Again, like so many of these games you can play as your own mii character which is something that adds an element of fun to the game I think. Whenever you start a game in wii sports resort for the first time it will tell you to ensure the motion plus accessory is locked on to the bottom of the wii remote and then it will ask you to place the remote on a flat surface so that it can collaborate and be ready to use.

The games are set on a tropical island for the most part and so you have things in the water as well as the beach. I think the graphics are pretty decent for a game such as this and they are bright in colour and don't lag or break up at all. Now of course this is to be expected from an expensive game but it is not always the case! Within the game there are twelve different sporty games in which you can play and as always there are some that are going to be better than others and those which rarely get played on but I feel a lot of that is each to their own and so I will cover all of the games now.

==Sword play==

In sword play there are three different mini games and I have to say this is the most frequently visited game on the disk for my son and I.

Within this game you can play:

Duel: In which you go head to head with either your opponent in multi player or a random character from the game on a podium much like the duel in gladiators many years ago. The aim is basically to hit your opponent off the podium and in to the water and the first one to do this three times is the winner.

Speed slice: In this game there is a character who will throw items in the air and you have to use the wii remote to slice the items in the direction shown and so this relies on quick and accurate reactions!

Showdown: This is my son's favourite game on the disk and he is quite literally amazing at it! With this there are various levels and you have to progress through it by knocking other characters down with your sword. When you reach 100% you can pass on to the next level but as you go through the levels obviously the opponents become harder to knock down and come at you in quick succession. This game quite literally gets you really working hard as you swing your arms about trying to defeat people, especially in the later rounds and we all end up hot and bothered as we play this one!

==Wakeboarding==

With this game you need to hold the remote side ways as if you are holding on to a handle on the rope and you have to flick the wii remote up to jump waves. This game is only available to play with one player at a time, but you can take turns to see who scores the highest. This is not one my son and I really go on to be honest because it just hasn't grabbed our attention as being one of the more fun mini games.

==Frisbee==

With this game you can either play at throwing the Frisbee for the dog on the beach or at throwing it on the golf course where you aim for target areas. Again this game can only be played with one wii remote at a time but you can take it in turns to see who scores the most points. I am completely rubbish at this one and just cannot get the hang of throwing the Frisbee properly and so we don't bother going on this game!

==Archery==

With this game you also need to use the nunchuck and again just need to use one remote control. Initially my son and I found this quite tricky to get the hang of because you need to hold buttons on the nunchuck as well as aiming with the wii remote and it all seemed a little complicated but now we both know how to do it and it is one of the games that we will play on against each other.

==Basketball==

In basketball there are two mini games to be played but to be honest my son and I have only ever pleated the three point contest one which is one of our favourite games on the disk. In this you need to pick up the ball with your wii remote and then throw it in to the hoop from various positions on the pitch. The player with the highest score is the winner as again this is a one remote game in which turns must be taken.

==Table tennis==

Much like ordinary table tennis the aim of the game here is to simply beat your opponent and so you can either play against each other or against one of the random characters in the game. My son likes this one but I am not so keen and so he tends to play against the computer or will play the return challenge where he needs to see how many balls he can return without missing a single ball.

==Golf==

With golf it is very similar to the one on the original wii sports game in that the aim of the game is to put the ball in as few shots as possible. I don't really like this game much and neither does my son so it is not one that gets played on very often to be honest.

==Bowling==

Like on wii sports there is a bowling game. When I first played this game I was rubbish which was annoying because I was good at the game on wii sports! The wii motion plus accessory really does track your movements more though so if I was flicking my wrist to the side a bit the ball would really veer off! This is an enjoyable game to play when you have a few people around as four people can play and all share one remote if needs be. There are a few mini games within this one including the standard bowling game, one where you need to knock down as many pins as you can out of 100 and a spin control game where you need to avoid barriers to hit the pins.

==Power cruising==

Like you are on a power boat you need to use the wii remote and nunchuck to steer yourself through a course of rings and you can also go head to head against each other as well. This again is not a game that my son and I really bother with.

==Canoeing==

As the name suggests you are in a canoe and must race through a speed challenge either on your own or against another player in a race. This game isn't one that my son and I like so we don't play on it.

==Cycling==

With this game you use the wii remote and the nunchuck in alternative movements to either cycle around the island or race against your opponent. My son quite likes this one but I don't because I am used to the one on wii fit in which you need to actually move your legs to cycle around the island and so this one feels like I am cheating a bit!

==Air sports==

With this one you can use the wii remote to fly a plane around the island, do a sky dive and go head to head with an opponent to pop balloons in the air but my son and I both find this game a bit boring and so don't bother playing on it. My son's friend does enjoy this one though and always goes on it when we have the game on!

I think this game is a decent one to play, especially if you have a few people round and are having a few drinks maybe because it is hilarious seeing how competitive people get during the mini games, especially sword fighting! It is good for families too though because you can all take part and there will be something that everyone is good at in there. You can pick the game up from play.com for £28.00 which includes the motion plus accessory which on its own sells for £13.99 if you purchase the official wii one and so it is a good buy really if you are looking for a fun family game to play over Christmas!

Thank you for reading my review!

Summary: A decent game
