Advantages: Fun, simple
Disadvantages: Body pains
After just finishing a review of the Wii I thought the easiest thing to do is to do a review of Wii Sports which is the game that comes with the Wii.
Wii Sports is a very basic game that is really there to demonstrate the capabilities of the Wii and how best to utilise the remote. Wii Sports comprises of 5 games (baseball, tennis, golf, boxing and bowling) and these can be played independently or you can do like a fitness thing where you are given certain tasks to do and you have to improve on the previous days score.
The first game is tennis. This game lets you use your Mii as one of the players. You can choose to play either singles or doubles but the game lengths very short (you only play the best of 5 games). Obviously this game is four players and can get quite competitive when all four play. Actually playing the game couldn't be much easier. To serve the ball, you need to lift the remote then move the remote forward in the way that you would serve normally Shots are then played by swinging the remote when the ball is coming towards you. The direction of the ball is dependant on when you hit the ball. For example, on your forehand, if you hit the ball early it will go left but if you hit it at the last minute it will go right. This takes some getting used to but is very simple once you get the hang of it.
Bowling is my favourite game. This is played by lining up the player on the alley, holding down the B button which starts the motion, then releasing it at the correct time. While this may seem simple enough, it gets much harder when you realise that it is not easy the throw the ball in a straight line. You can also add spin to the ball by flicking your wrist as you let go of the B button. This can make for some brilliant shots. This game is also for 4 players.
Baseball to me was the most tiring game. Again, it is very simple. People throw the ball at you and you need to swing to hit it. The harder you swing the further it will go and the same rules apply for direction as they did in tennis. Pitching is more difficult as you are given the choice of what kind of ball to throw by holding down a particular button. Catching on the game is automatic and you only get 3 innings per match. Be careful when playing this game as there is a chance the remote will go flying! This is only a 2 player game.
Golf wasn't my favourite game. I found it difficult to get the hang of. I had the tiger woods game and that was easy to use but this one is more difficult. You basically need to swing as you would in a normal golf game and the ball direction should be dictated by your swing. I know people who play golf and they say that what they do in real life is what happens in the game. This is a four player game which lets you play the full 18 holes.
Finally comes boxing. This uses the remote and nunchuck as your left and right hands. You need to move either of them into certain positions to hit your opponent in a particular way. I found this to be very hard and the most tiring game of the lot. You can play upto 2 people but, obviously, both players will need a nunchuck.
The one thing I found when I got my Wii was that you will be absolutely knackered after playing these. On numerous occasions I would wake up with pain all over my body from playing on the damn thing but it was well worth it. Don't worry though, you get used to it after a while!
With all of these games you can also use your Mii which makes very little difference but adds that little personal touch!
Wii Sports is a brilliant game single player but even more fun multiplayer. The fact that it is free makes it all the better but I would have happily paid £30 for it.
Summary: Great game
