Advantages: Free, a good introduction to the world of motion controlled games.

Disadvantages: Basic graphics.

Wii Sports is a sports game for the Wii developed by Nintendo.

This game has no storyline or anything it is simply a minigame compilation which allows you to play several different sports games using the new motion controller of the Nintendo Wii.

In tennis you can play either singles or doubles, you don't control the movement of your character just the tennis racket which you can swing either a forehand or backhand stroke. You can also toss the ball into the air and hit it to serve. The power of your shot is also determined by how hard you hit. It can be really fun in doubles mode with your friends. Tennis is playable by up to four players.

In baseball you hold the Wii remote like you would a baseball bat, it is actually very precise and it detects every little motion that you make, when the ball comes you must swing the remote at the ball and hopefully hit it well enough to score a home run! If not you can hit it and your characters will run a little around the field. You can also pitch and you can do a number of different types of throws but the remote is less accurate and you must press the buttons to curve the ball. Two players can play baseball.

Bowling is much like the actual thing (apart from the heavy bowling ball!) you hold the Wii remote as you would a bowling ball and then you pull back and then roll the ball down the alley to see if you can get a strike! You can also tilt your character with the directional pad to aim shots more precisely. There is actually an exploit I have found that when you flick the controller really hard you will nearly always get a strike! Bowling is playable by up to four people.

Golf is one of my least favourites, there are three different levels to play with each having more hazards as you get go up in difficulty. You hold the Wii remote like a golf club and try and hit the ball but any sort of power and your shot will go all over the place! Unless you are very restrained you will not get anywhere in this mode and since when do you tap the ball to drive it 300 yards! You can play Golf with up to four people.

Boxing is probably my favourite of the Wii sports here you hold up the Wii remote and Nunchuck like you would your fists and then you can swing at your opponent, you can also hold your hands up to block them and weave from side to side to dodge their blows. It is really fast paced and exciting but can be quite tiring you really do get quite a good workout! Boxing is playable with 2 players.

The graphics are quite basic as the game uses your Mii characters and bland environments.

This is an excellent game to get you started with your Wii, best of all it is free!

Summary: An excellent free game!
