Advantages: Lots of games to choose from for all of the family
Disadvantages: None
I've had the Wii console for just over a year now and I've got to say that I've had so much fun playing this on my own and with my family. Before this I hadn't played computer games since I was little and was amazed to see how much technology has come on. I love the Wii because they produce so many family fun games which I think is great, a few weeks ago I had all my family around for dinner and with the ages ranging from my 8 year old nephew to my grandma, everybody was enjoying playing Wii sports, a very popular game for all of the family (even my grandma).
I bought the Wii console as a package and this is one of the games that came free with it and was the first game I played on the Wii. With games such as tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing I think personally that this is a good variety for all of the family. These are all presented on the main menu page once the game is loaded along with training and fitness.
To play these games you will need a Wii remote and nunchuk and if you want to play with more than one player you will need up to four of each. Before you start playing make sure the wrist strap is tight and you hold the Wii remote tightly, to avoid any breakages around the home.
--- Training ---
In the training section you can choose from all of the above sports to practice your skills before playing a match. There are 3 different sections for each sport to try to enable you to perfect reflexes, timing, speed and precision. In this section you can choose your own mii and play with up to four players (you don't get to play against each other in this section, the players take it in turns to practice).
--- Wii fitness ---
In this section the Wii chooses three games/tests for you (which are all in the training section). It measures speed, stamina and balance and depending on how well you do in your tests will depend on the age the Wii gives you at the end. I find that I'm good at some games so my Wii fitness age comes out where I would want it to be but to be honest I'm not very good at many so my Wii fit age always comes out a lot older!
--- Games ---
All games can be played with 1-4 players (1 player plays against the computer).
Tennis - You can choose to play single or the best of 3 or 5 matches, playing on your own against the computer (playing both a forward and back position) or with 2 or more players (doubles one player plays forward and one back and the same with the opposite team).
Golf - this is a 3 hole game (there is a 9 hold option but I would start with the 3) where you can choose between beginner, intermediate and expert. As you go through these the angle of the hole, obstacles and wind strength getter harder the more advanced you become. Try to keep you score low to win this competition.
Baseball - this game is only for 2 players (or can be played on your own with the computer) One player bowls trying to put a spin on the ball or bowl a fast, slow or screw ball to try to confuse your opposition. The other player will bat trying to hit the ball as far as you can (out of the stadium) to get more runs. After one team has all batted you change over. The person with the most runs at the end is the winner.
Bowling - this is just like 10 pin bowling, all the rules and sets are the same, each mii throws the ball forward trying to get as many pins down as possible (all 10 pins down is a strike). The highest score at the end is the winner.
Boxing - this game is only for 2 players although you can play on your own against the computer. The idea is to hit the opposition trying to knock them out. There are 3 rounds with about 2 ½ minutes in each. If you get knocked out you have 10 seconds to quickly shack your wii remote and nunchuk up and down to get back into the game. When I play this my arms really ache the next day (a good work out).
Overall, all of these games are meant for all ages but is suggested on the box that children should be the age of 7. This is because the games need a lot of precision and younger children may get upset and frustrated if for example they cannot return any balls. I find this is a fantastic way for the whole family to interact and have fun together and I know my family have had hours of fun. Another fun product bought to you by Nintendo.
Summary: A great game for all of the family
