This game is a bit rubbish. Its basically a wii game that instead of using the wii controls to do something innovative, cool, or different, has decided on making a game as painstakingly tedious as physically possible, whilst giving you the wii equivalent of a tennis elbow.
Ok so basically this isnt a game, its more a series of minigames, like wii sports, or wii party etc. Unfortunately, none of these minigames are particularly good, and most of them are pretty similar to the point where you barely notice the difference (the skeleton run, 4 man bombsledge and the 2 women sled are pretty much the same thing, but you are in a different thing! They handle and feel exactly the same).
Another thing that is annoying about this game is the level of precision needed to "win" a game. If you are playing in campaign mode (there is campaign, career, single event and a 2p mode, but I have never tried the 2p mode, as I doubt it will be any good), then to beat the computer on say the bobsled, you need to pretty much have a perfect start, and do every corner perfectly. This is very tricky to do when it all happens so fast, also as the instructions are so poor both ingame and in the instruction booklet (its almost like they are from another language just put onto google translate or something), and the fact that the wii remote isn't the most sensitive of things at times.
To give an idea what I am talking about, the curling event (that weird thing where they throw this ball and two people go either side and scrub infront of it, and the idea is to hit the target), you have to throw the ball by swinging the wii remote, then shake the wii remote to "scrub" infront of the ball. It took me about 7 attempts just to get the ball to end in the target zone, and to "win" I had to get it in the red bullseye in the middle. It's very difficult to judge, especially when right after you throw the ball, the brushers spaz out a bit in confusion, then sometimes you shake the wii remote and they brush moderately, and you end up shaking your arms infront of the tv looking like someone having an epileptic fit, just to see you ball move up to the target area so slowly (we are talking maybe 1cm a minute?), and just carry on to the other end of the target and off the screen.
Its pretty much the same for most of the events. Mess up one corner on the bombsled, and you automatically loose that race. Considering that the corners come with no "warnings" like turn left, turn right. And the fact that the tiniest of tilts on the wii remote results in you "crashing" (more of a bumping) into the walls, well, it makes this game feel likes its just too difficult really. Maybe in the real world winter sports are very tricky, but I somehow doubt the worlds best winter athletes will have their bobsled starts measured by how many times they can spin a wii remote in a circle (I have never managed a 100% good start, I can only assume the people who designed this games have had their arms removed, and replaced with spinning tops or something).
Overall then, this is a very poor game. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is for two reasons. Firstly, its so bad, its kind of funny to laugh at the poor graphics, hilariously glitchy bits (like the downhill skiing, not matter what you do you cannot turn that thing), and I can imagine the bobsled being a fun thing to challenge with friends (maybe its ok in 2p version?). I honestly cannot say I have tried all the game modes, I didn't have the heart to try the ice skating, or the speed skating, or the cross country skiing, but nothing that I did play made me want to stay and play those bits, and I seriously doubt that its any good.
If you are dead set on a winter sports game, for the wii, then maybe this game is for you. But I wouldnt spend more than 50p on it (I got mine for free as a present, and I still feel it was a rip off!)
Winter sports....I have always enjoyed the sports games offered by so many consoles over the years..I remember a great sports game on the PlayStation when it first came out...awesome!....anyway...
....I actually dont mind this game, I did go out and purchase NEW from GAME I think, overall I like what the game has to offer and after a bit of practising I managed to grasp all of the events you can enter.
Some events are harder to grasp compared to others, and you'll find that some of them are far more interesting in comparrison. Some of the events though when mastered get boring as you are almost garunteed to win or beat the world record which can become very very tiring.
I am not a fan of the menu setup and feel tht it could be a bit more user freindly and clearer, and I dont like the constant replays and video footage inbetween events either as it bores you silly after a while.
I will probably continue to play this game from time to time but it's never longer than 20 mins, by which time i whack in something far more interesting like MarioKart........bring it on!!!!
Unfortunately I would have to say that this game was a massive disappointment. I had always loved the classic winter sports games where you had to tap two keys as fast as you can and thought that the games on this would be as enjoyable, but sadly they are not.
I enjoy skiing in real life, but the skiing on this is so unrealistic and unbelievably difficult that it is just not enjoyable. Having subsequently played the skiing using the balance board with the wii fit which is 100 times better, I do not think I have even used this game. The skiing was the main reason for buying the game but it is just not any fun.
The curling is just ridiculous, the controls do not make sense and rarely work as they are supposed to. Ice skating is also not good, very difficult but just not fun and there is not the usual 'not wanting to put the controller down' feeling with this game.
The bobsleigh and ski jump are perhaps the only two parts of the game that are any fun, but the disappointing thing with this game is that you do not feel a part of it. By this I mean that when you play the boxing on wii sports for example you feel like you are actually boxing and it is easy to get lost in mario kart, but that just does not happen with this game.
I bought this game for £30.00 and was very disappointed.
I would definitely not recommend it.
It took me a while to mangage to locate this game and i finally managed to find one on Ebay as everywhere seems to have sold out rapidly, i have wanted this games since i first got my Wii in January having already brought Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, in which it has tried to compete with and although it is a good game i do not think you can beat Mario and Sonic at the olympics.
You have the option to play single player where you battle against the computer which is not a bad game as when you normally play on your own in games like these it normally lacks escitment. The 2 player option which has a split screen or you have the four player option as you all battle it out to beat each others time in order to claim the gold medal.
This game gives you the option of 9 games these include Alpine Skating, Ski Jumping, Bobsleigh, Speed Skating, Curling and Figure Skating. This is on of the very few computer gmes that i have played over the years that i have actually liked all of the games.
This game works perfectly with the Wii remote, although some of the games take a little bit longer to master than the others.
The graphics are really good for the Wii you will not be disappointed.
This game is ideal to play with your friends and family as everyone likes a little competition now and again and if nothing else you will have fun laughing at each other as you watch each other trying to speed skate with your arms flying every where.
I recommend that you buy this game its a must have.
