I have a number of Wii games but I have to say I think this is my favourite. I have tried numerous fitness games and none of them have been as beneficial as this one. The game comes with its own camera which is really easy to set up and get started (this is coming from a complete technology novice). You will need the Wii, TV, Wii remotes and balance board. Once loaded all you had to do was enter some basic information about your body height, weight, age etc. The camera then scanned your body and n image of you is displayed on the screen. The game then looks at your body and decides which part of the body needs the most work, this can be quite offensive but hey! Although this area will be given as a suggestion you can also choose to aim your workout at another part of the body so it is tailored to what you want. You then add what the aim of your work e.g. to lose weight, tone etc and how long you want to work out for. The finally with all of this information the computer will generate a workout that will, suit and benefit you, I thought this was great as it is like having a very own personal trainer were the workout is specifically for you. When all of this is complete the workout is about to begin. An image of your body is displayed on one side of the screen and the "trainer" on the other. The trainer will then perform an exercise and you are to follow, as you do this you're on screen double will mimic your movement, a percentage will appear to say how accurate your moves are and the trainer will then suggest ways in which to improve the exercise so that you are making the most of each movement. Each workout includes muscle toning, and strengthening exercises and also aerobic exercise to aid weight loss, but will primarily focus on the aims you have set. I really enjoyed the workouts set but was absolutely shattered by the end of a twenty minute workout. I felt the same level of exhaustion as when i go to the gym, all this without leaving the house. There are also other features available on the game for example exercise diary which i found very useful.
I bought this game about a few months ago because I like to keep in shape and look my best. It wasn't a lot of money and I bought it second hand from Marie Curie Cancer Care for £7. I already had the camera for this game which was just as well as no camera came with it when I bought it. We have a big ledge on our TV and the camera is placed on top which is in perfect position for the game. It is very simple and easy to set up by just plugging in the camera into the Wii console through the USB port. Easy as that! The camera quality is a bit hazy and not as good as I would have expected but that is probably the only downside apart from it being so repetitive. Beginning this is the most tedious part as you have to set up your 'persona'. You also need to ensure that you have ample movability room, and by this I mean that it is no good trying to do this game in a small room where you might be liable to knock things over as soon as you start to wave your arms about. Fortunately I have a large basement with ample room where I stock a lot of my household gadgets and I always do my keep fit routines in private down here where I have a lot of room. I chose my persona and chose to be a rather large fit bloke. The idea is that you can change what you look like and as I am large anyway I had to put in all my exact height weight measurements etc so that it can predict how much excercise I need to enable me to lose weight and be in shape. I have a virtual coach (also a bloke) on the left side of the sscreen and who I have to copy his movements throughout the workout. I then simply had to undertake a short session so that the game is able to tell me what my level of fitness actually is. I could chose to have a female coach but I prefer not to. I like the way in which I instruct the camera what to do and give it my instructions by just waving about my right arm - I find this quite good but sometimes I have to keep on waving my arm about a bit before the camera is able to ick up on what I am doing. especially is I stand too far to the right. The idea is that it is completely hands free and ther eis no need for you to have to use a remote control which I like as this allows me free movement. I also really like the way it is able to scan the whole of my body before a workout, very hi tech. My other half finds it a bit creepy. It is your option whether or not to do a full work out of the entire body or to concentrate on one or two areas. I am working on my bottom at the moment and my upper arms so looked for an option to work on and to keep them to their present tight and trim form. I also do a full body work out if I am feeling the need to. I use this game every night when I come in from work but sometimes alongside other games I have and before I take my shower. It gives a good workout and I particularly like the good music it plays in the background which gives me agood rythmn to work out to and alleviates the boredom. If I get a bit tired during my routine I simply slow down and the coach gives me encourgaement to keep on going. Good game and thoroughly recommended as an excellent piece of software.
I bought this for around £9 in Game and it came with the camera too. The camera plugs in via a USB port in the Wii console and the set up is pretty simple. The camera will sit on top of your TV set perfectly. You need to make sure you have enough room to move, and you need to ensure that you can see the whole of you form head to foot in the picture displayed on the right hand side of your TV screen. Your vitual coach is on the left side and you simply follow her moves. You have to make your profile and set all the required details such as height, weight, etc. You then do a brief workout to determine your fitness level and then you'll be set to go. There's a model on screen where you can pick the body part you want to work on, there's also a full body workout option. If you are finding certain exercises a bit tricky, your coach will show you how to perform it correctly, again like other games it is pretty simple to pick up as the virtual coach is there performing the exercises right there on the screen. The camera isn't the clearest but it does the job just fine. I like that the Wii has a varity of different fitness games, atleast this way you won't get bored of doing the same routine over and over! The thing I like about this is that you can see yourself on screen..... wobbly bits and all!! If this doesn't give you the incentive you need I don't know what will!
I consider Wii games where you have to be active to be my favourites games. The first time I saw this game it looked promising and just had to get it. The idea sounded good that you could practice with the help of a camera so that the program can register your movements and even correct you. It's like having a personal trainer! Your shape is a game that focuses on active game and getting a full work out. You can focus on certain muscle groups such as abs and biceps. The workout is done with the help of a camera that records your movements and helps you perform the exercises correctly. The camera of Your Shape has a USB connection and can be placed in the USB port of your Wii Console and then you put the camera on the TV. All this is very easy. More complex is to ensure that the camera meets the requirements for it to function properly. In the book there are clear instructions like make sure that there are no light sources in the vicinity (like big windows). Also make sure there's no furniture in front the camera or any moving objects. Your clothes should also be bright because otherwise the camera will not register you and you also have to make sure that you fit fully in the screen. That means you must have a large room and stand quite far from the TV, otherwise your legs and head are cut off. You can imagine its quiet difficult to meet the requirements and will only work if you got a big living room with no windows. When you first start playing you need to scan your body. After an x-number of workouts this happens again. When creating a profile you must also enter things like height and weight and you have to do a special test that measures how fit you are. Once you've set your camera you can choose a workout. You have several areas where you can focus on like your belly, your arms, your chest or your legs. You can also work on your fitness level. There are also special workouts aimed at targets for example to lose the additional holiday pounds. When you have chosen a workout you can set the time and choose any attributes that you have in your house like weights or a step. After choosing a workout you can perform the workout. You see yourself on the right half of the television screen and on the left half is an animated person doing what you do. At the bottom you see the name of the exercise you do and you get on the percentage about the exercises you've done well (every time you fail, that figure falls), the time and the number calories you've burned. In itself it looks all quite clear enough. The only thing that is disturbing is that you can not see what the next exercise is, or how long it lasts. This is quite frustrating because you have no idea what to expect. The exercises in the workout seem somewhat random. There are several workouts that focus on a target rather than a specific body part. For a period of time you will have to do the exercise every day. There is also a protected area where you enter a code. It seems to me totally unclear how you get this code. Maybe at some point you get this code after reaching some kind of level but the game doesn't say anything about it. I eventually found him on the internet. It appears to be an extra tough workout or so is claimed. The controller works as mentioned in the enclosed camera. The camera records your movements. At least, that's the intention. It often happens that the exercises that you doing are not properly recorded. The exercises which I have to run from left to right always go wrong. While I really do exactly what is expected of me. The exercises you do on the ground (such as abdominal or leg muscle exercises) are not registered. And there is as mentioned earlier not said what you need to do when it's going wrong. It's only said on what part of the body you need to focus but why I doing something wrong I have no idea. This wouldn't have to be a problem only the way you perform during a exercise influence the level of your next exercise. So if the program says you are not performing the exercise correctly then the next one gets easier, while again it's not clear what I'm doing wrong. The sounds of Your Shape are solid. The voice of the trainer is well understood. The things they are saying is standard and you can hear it every workout again. In the background you can hear music that has some rhythm, but it's nothing special. Your shape is in itself a great game where you get a good workout. Especially if you choose a workout that last 45, 60 or 75 minutes, you'll notice it. For me it is absolutely not what I expected. The camera itself is a nice idea but it doesn't really work for me. It's a lot of hassle to make it work properly because you have to move all the furniture and make sure it's not to bright in your room by like sunlight. Also my room isn't that big so it was really difficult to get it working. The result is that many exercises don't go well because the camera doesn't read my movements proper. Unfortunately this game does not meet my expectations. I am annoyed with spending my money as many sports games for Wii are a lot better and a lot more fun. I can't imagine that there are people who appreciate this game. The game is definitely not motivating me and I have therefore only played it a couple of times. A shame because the game looked very promising!
I had seen the adverts for this and was impressed and pleased that my bloke bought this for me so I dont know how much it was. I looked on amazon recently for this and its about £30. The ubisoft camera is white and it is small and looks good, the lead is very long, I have my wii on the bottom shelf on tv stand and I wind some of the lead back up so its not too long. Plug the camera into the USB port on the wii and put the camera on top of tv. My wii sensor is at the bottom of my TV as it wont balance on top -I have a flat screen. I didn't want my camera stuck on my tv when not using it so I found a prism shape of plastic and then attached the slot part of the camera onto this, so this goes onto my tv. When you start you input your weight, height etc and then the camera 'scan's you' and shows a representation of yourself on the screen. It recommends what area you need to focus on or you can set your own, initially I set it for my legs and to burn (you can burn or strength). You can change what area you want to focus on every time you start a workout anyway. The trainer asks how your feeling today you can say your ready to go, so far I have only said that she's lucky I am here. This is because it is hard going -well for me anyway. You can also add hand weights and other workout equipment. I have been using this for about a week and a half and have already seen improvements in my weight. Then you begin, yourself is on the right and the personal trainer is on the left and she does start exercising straight away but it is easy to follow her. Everyso often it checks your movements to make sure your following correctly and if not she calls things out like watch your arms and then lets you know when you've got it right. I found that on one of the excercises when I was lying down I had to move around a bit so that it recognised my leg movements. On the screen it shows your calories burning as well as counting down the time which is good, rest intervals are given which is counting down so make sure you have some water to hand for the breaks. You can set a workout for 15mins or longer I excercise 30minutes either 2 or 3 times a week as I also have wii fit plus which I use as well. Once your finished your results are displayed letting you know your levels. The reason for the 4 stars is because it misses your body movements occasionally.
Following EA Sport's lead, "Your Shape" (a direct descendant of their earlier "My Fitness Coach") is Ubisoft's attempt to offer something new to the idea of home fitness through the Nintendo Wii. The game is very easy to set up. Simply switch off the Wii console, plug the camera into the USB slot on the back and place the camera on top of the TV - it is well designed to fit on flat screen TVs however, despite looking as though it might, the camera does not clip on to the sensor bar. Following that all you need to do is enter your details when asked and check the camera - you need to make sure that you can see all of your body on the TV screen. Now you are ready to go. You set up your profile giving your weight, height and year of birth and the camera scans your body shape (not my favourite part of this game!). Next you work through a brief workout to test your general fitness and then you are ready to exercise. You are given the option to select which parts of the body you want to exercise and set up a calendar for exercising with a choice of how long you want to exercise each day. Here you're forced to select every day, with no option to say "Mon, Weds, Fri", or to remove all Saturdays, etc. If you change your long term goal, it is not immediately clear what (if any) changes have been to your workout program, which makes the goal feature seem very "tacked on" rather than a well integrated part of the program. It seems that the use of cameras as input devices is the new step forward in video games, and although it is a brilliant idea in "Your Shape" I just found the execution of this technology to be very poor. My first issue with the camera was that it wouldn't recognise my movements until I changed my clothing to contrast with the background The next issue I found was with regards to space. To monitor your actions, the game states that you need to be at least 5-6 foot away from the camera, and to have an area about 2.5m wide x 2.5m long x 2.5m high, and free of clutter including protruding lights. Not the easiest thing in a student flat! During the workout, the screen is split into two: your virtual trainer on the left, and on the right is what your camera sees: you. If you're getting it right, then the trainer makes various encouraging comments, but if you're getting it wrong then it can be really hard to determine what the problem is so you're forced to turn to trial and error to solve the problem - are you too close/far from the camera? Is it unable to track your skin, or your shirt sleeves? etc. The trainer also gives you absolutely no introduction to the exercises, from the very first workout you're supposed to jump straight in and know what you're doing. The game is fully based on old school aerobics routines that become very repetitive, even in a half hour session that should allow for plenty of variation. If you want something with a variety of exercises, games and activates then this will get very dull, very quick. Overall I think the idea behind this game is a fantastic one but the actual execution very poor. Maybe Ubisoft rushed this game through before their competitors jumped on the attached camera bandwagon?
I do love my Wii and I especially love using it to keep fit and healthy so it was always likely that something like this product would appeal to me. Your Shape describes itself as 'fitness focused on you' and the pack comes complete with a little camera which they claim 'scans your body, detects your movement and makes exercise 100% controller free'. It sounded good to me and was available from Amazon for £38.99 so I thought it would make an interesting early Christmas present from me to me! Out of the box This product is made by Ubisoft and licensed by Nintendo. As with all this type of software there is a disc included, some basic instructions plus with this product you also get a little camera that fits on to of your TV. The camera has a USB connection which just plugs into the back of the Wii Console (the console needs to be powered off when you plug it in) and apart from that it needs no other setting up to speak of. Just load the disc into the console and away you go. Getting to know the software It is all very simple indeed. First you need to feed in some basic details about yourself, name, height and weight and then the camera will scan your body to assess your body shape. You are advised to make sure there is no movement in the background from children or pets and to ensure that there is good contrast between your clothing and the background. According to Your Shape I am a body shape B - which is probably somewhat influenced by the fact that I was wearing a thick sweatshirt and baggy trousers when I first used it. I am hoping at some point it will do a retest at which point I will try to be wearing something more close fitting - it would have been helpful if I could force it to do a retest but so far I haven't found a way short or re-registering myself which is frustrating. It could be that over time it will offer a retest but it hasn't so far after just a week of use. Once it has your details you have the option of setting up a calendar for your exercise routine and choosing how long to exercise each day. Each day when you start your exercise you can pick which part of your body you want to exercise and to choose whether you want to tone or go for strength or burn. It also has special workout programmes to help you make the most of your workout and it even has a yoga choice. As you exercise the instructor appears on screen showing you how to do the exercises and as you follow her you can see yourself alongside her on your TV screen and can check if you are following her correctly. If you aren't then a message will flash on the screen to tell you your arms aren't right or your legs aren't right so that you have time to correct them. It seems to work out pretty well although I find there are times when I think I am doing it right but it doesn't recognise it - that could be caused by the wrong lighting or poor contrast with the background, sometimes in my case it is because the puppy has decided to dance along! The exercises are very similar to those on My Fitness Coach (which I think is an excellent piece of software) which isn't surprising as it is from the same manufacturer. The routines vary every time to go to them so that you don't get bored and the end of each session they give you feedback about how you have done and how many calories you have burned. There is also feedback about the 'distance covered and weight lifted' - I am not sure what that means exactly but it does give an impression of the extent of the workout you have had. My view of the software It is certainly true that when you are exercising you can do so 100% controller free which I find is very convenient. You just get started and then let the software do the rest. I do get a little frustrated sometimes if it doesn't detect my movement properly and thinks I am standing still when I am working quite hard but as I said earlier it could be because I am not working against a plain background. I love the variety of the exercises but would appreciate being able to change the back ground and the music from time to time as you can with other software. Because I also have My Fitness Coach the exercises aren't new to me but they do give a good workout. I did worry about where I would put the camera on my flat screen TV but it was fine as the camera has a little hinged bracket at the base which easily sits on the top edge and it hasn't moved at all in use. Would I recommend it? Yes I would if you want to exercise without having to keep picking up and putting down the remote. It only allows for you to register four users so it might be limiting if you have a big family and only one person can work out at once. However if you are on a tight budget and aren't worried about the camera (or don't want to watch yourself exercising on your own TV) then I suggest you buy My Fitness Trainer as you will get a very similar workout.
