Advantages: Graphics, Easy to use, Fitness, Music
Disadvantages: Longer workouts.
I use to regularly go to Zumba lessons at a pricey £7 a session, but as soon as I discovered there was a game out on the Wii, I was delighted.
I am a big fan of other Wii fitness games such as "Just Dance" and "Wii Fit" and now "Zumba" has gone straight to the top of my list.
The game comes with an adjustable velcro strap that has a small cradle for the Wii remote which you wear around your waist. This is so the Wii can record whether you are doing the movements correctly and will score you accordingly.
Like the Zumba lessons I use to attend, there is a selection of up-beat latin-american music that you can't help but move to.
Starting the game is very simple, you just insert the disc into the Wii and select the game from the Wii menu. Next you create a player and then are free to do any of the routines on offer. There is a wide range of dance moves and routines to choose from which make the game all the more fun, and makes you less likely to tire from it. There are four main sections all of which have further options to them: Zumba Party, Zumba Class, Single Routine, and Multi-player. There are sections such as "Beginner 20 minute"-which is a non-stop 20 minute workout that provides "water breaks" throughout the duration. Other sections include
"Intermediate 45 minute" and so on.
There are other dance moves, settings and sessions to unlock once you have done a set amount of exercise or have gained a particular score. There are opportunities to create a "Fitness Plan" which gives you an interactive calendar where once you have entered your goal weight and lifestyle, what Zumba plan is best for you. When your fitness plan is underway the Wii will give you friendly reminders or prompts about how much exercise you should have done which is very helpful when you need that little extra push.
The tutorials have a stylised woman dancing on the screen which you copy. At the bottom of the screen there are moving diagrams that depict the dance move so you can copy successfully. The bright colours used in the graphics, such as the hot pink, deep blues and oranges, really encourage and spur you on to move and groove.
It's a fantastic way to rid yourself of any excess calories and to tone your body. Also unlike most exercise you don't feel as if you are exercising. Instead you feel like you're just having a bit of fun and a silly dance around. But if you keep it up, when you look in the mirror or step on the scales then you will be sure to see a difference. I have already lost 1 stone and that is just from keeping to my Zumba fitness plan and eating healthily.
Even if you haven't been to a Zumba lesson before, it doesn't matter. If the gym isn't for you and you prefer some up-beat music and hip wiggling in your living room. Then this is the game for you.
For all ages. The multiplayer function is brilliant. My mum and I regularly go on it of an afternoon and enjoy and feel the benefits equally as much. Not only that, my friends love to go on it and on more than one occasion, it has become a party starter! It's an all round generation crowd pleaser.
Summary: Highly recommended!
