The popularity of books like 'The God Delusion' and the growing tirade of arguments from people such as Stephen Hawking, David Humes and Christopher Hitchens has led writer David H. Glass to respond to their belief in 'New Atheism'.
The book clearly states the difference between atheism and 'New Atheism', which is an extreme form of atheism in which it is argued an element of faith is actually required to follow.
Separated into distinct sections, Glass responds to New Atheist claims in a humble, to-the-point way which is structured and written as simply as possible. Whilst some concepts take a while to read over and understand, it is put in a logical order.
I have not read 'The God Delusion' but this book deals with some of the claims in that book and others that mispresent information, ignore 'evidence' and not to explore what they are writing about in a scientific way which they claim to be the source of progress and will one day disprove religion.
Glass on the otherhand, explores it thoroughly, presenting facts, observations, scenarios and more to make a point. Whilst you cannot just read and accept everything that is written, there is a strong investigation which is undertaken.
Unlike the books by 'The New Atheists' which use aggressive language such as " "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." (God Delusion- Richard Dawkins), 'Atheisms New Clothes' do not try to belittle or insult without reason, only states when methods are illogical, contradictory or hypocritical.
At over 300 pages, the book is quite a heavy read and is written in a professional way, offering citations, references and further reading. It does not cover every single thing that might have been discussed by the new atheists but is a good start in responding to some of those claims which many have just jumped on board to claim as their own belief and in a way to justify their atheism.
'Atheism's New Clothes' is a very interesting book for those who have read 'The God Delusion' to read the other side of the discussion which is well written and thought-provoking. It is definitely one to talk about and offer an alternative perspective on the highly important issues.
Again, the New Atheism discussed in the book is different to regular atheism.
