I have read the previous book by Dr Atkins and this one is just a slightly updated version. The basic principle is still the same, eating more or less only protein.

There are quite a few complicated scientific facts in there and also he advocates going into ketosis (which he claims is a fat-burning process). To check this, you have to test your urine by dipping ketosticks into it. As this is an American book, my local chemist looked nonplussed when I asked him for these sticks and I ended up with some which were for diabetics.

Fruit is almost completely limited, and although it is possible to lose weight on this diet, I would imagine that it would be very difficult to stay on it for any length of time.

All the criteria go against my idea of healthy eating and it would be almost impossible for a vegetarian to go on it.

I really believe this to be a fad diet which must put an awful strain on the kidneys.
