      Very helpful

5 stars for the right person; but on my personal opinion I'm giving it 3.

I have to say that when I entered dooyoo's competition to win a book from New Holland Publishers, this wasn't the kind of subject matter that sprang to mind!

I've been ordering lots of Christmas presents recently, so I was bemused when it arrived and I opened it, my first thought being 'I didn't order this?!' I didn't spend too much time looking at the front cover; if I had I might have noticed the tagline 'Horny Rhinos and Humping Camels', and approached with a little more caution. As it was, I flicked randomly to the middle to be confronted with a full-size glossy photo of two lions in a somewhat...compromising (ahem) position, shall we say. My boyfriend thought it was hilarious, and I do have a sense of humour so could see the funny side - I was just grateful I hadn't asked for it to be delivered to my workplace...

The book is 96 pages long, and the pages are basically double spreads (sorry for the pun) of animals, well, getting jiggy really. Each pair (or occasionally three(!)) of the animals are given a caption - some are quite amusing, some are a bit more along the 'cheesy greetings card' line. Most of the animals are of the zoo variety, and there are repeats of some animals (though I suppose it's the captions that make the humour?). There's one page in particular that I found a bit too disgusting, and that was the rhino page as it's far too graphic for my liking.

The book is shorter than your average paperback, and more square in shape that a standard book. It's well-bound, the thick front and back covers are of good quality, and the slight glossiness to the pages as well as the content puts it into the 'joke/humorous present' category more than anything else. The pages have high resolution photographs, which aren't particularly artistic and meant purely to be taken at face value.

Quite frankly, this book was a little too long for me, and it's pretty repetitive as the only differences between each double page are the short caption and the animals (and as I said, some animals are repeated). There's literally one or two very short sentences on a page, and I can't help feeling that this concept would have worked much better as individual greetings cards (although what shop would agree to stock them, I don't know. Possibly Ann Summers, or places in Amsterdam perhaps?!).

This certainly isn't a book I would choose to buy, and it's probably one to buy as a stag do present or as a joke present for an animal lover. I'll be keeping it in my Secret Santa stash probably. If you're buying this for someone, I'd proceed with caution because this book will offend a LOT of people, so make sure you know they will appreciate it!

Thanks to dooyoo and New Holland for sending this to me. If you want to buy a copy, you can pick it up for under £5 on Amazon. If you're buying it online, I recommend NOT typing the book title into Google - go to your choice of shopping site first before searching!
