Advantages: Great humour to keep you reading
Disadvantages: none
I started my own business in March 2010 called Hollie-in-Bloom and I wanted some information i would need to start up, something I could read without getting so confused with large words and the author to make it hard to keep reading. I was recommended this book by a friend and it was such a brilliant buy.
THE BOOK:
============
Steve Gibson helps you to understand all the things you need to know and have ready before starting up your business. I had some training before starting mine, but once I was a year into my business, I needed more guidance on marketing and promotion which when looking online for a book that would help with this, I stumbled across this book.
The price was more of a selling point for me, as I was thinking "if it cost more, it will be a large book full of jargon and hard to learn information" which I really didn't want.
I ended up buying this book and read it in a day. It is a very short book with 144 pages then a further 14 pages of useful websites, grants and contacts. The book is brilliant for information regarding your business plan, marketing strategies, getting advertisements right and pricing with trying to get the best deals for your customers.
Gibson is rather comic with his writing, keeping you reading and wanting to learn more. I haven't learnt so much is such a short amount of time since being at school. I would highly suggest sitting with a pen and pad when reading this book as you will end up writing notes and information you want to remember to look up later.
The beginning of the book is rather off putting, but if you carry on reading after the first chapter, then you're definitely ready to start your own business. The helpful information at the back of the book is brilliant. You will find lots of business help there for paying taxes, national insurance, getting grants, business information centres, accounting and much more!.
MY OPINION:
=================
This book has helped me endless amount of times when I am stuck for ideas for marketing, or trying to find out information on a certain business related topic. I keep it with my accounting books and end up getting it out at least once a fortnight.
It helps you to understand how to advertise which is brilliant as if you have a plumbing business for example, you don't want to just advertise "plumber available for all types of jobs and available for emergencies" as you haven't stated your whereabouts and could end up with some angry customers when they ring and you're the other side of England.
The price of £4.29 is very appealing and I really didn't expect it to be so packed with information in such a small book and a small price! If you're looking to start out in the business world, then this book is definitely a must have in your information research!
