~ ~ Being such a golf fanatic, I totally devoured this book. Despite the title, it’s not a tale about some mad hunters with suicidal tendencies, but the story of the now infamous Ryder Cup golf match between the USA and Europe at Brookline Country Club in America in the summer of 1999. Europe lost the match despite going into the final round of last day singles matches with a commanding lead, but it was the antics and unsportsmanlike behaviour of both the American players and spectators that was the main controversy in the media for months afterwards. Firstly Mark James is not an Author. He is a golfer so this book should be read with that in mind. James has nothing but good to say about the European team especially the 3 unfortunate players who did not feature until the singles even though subsequently there have been moans from some quarters. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if we had retained the cup it would have been considered a master stroke. As for the 'binning' of Faldo's letter, this appeared to be a joint decision which involved the players as well as the captain.
