I have to confess to being a bit of a Tudor geek and enjoy visiting Tudor properties and reading about the characters, thus I asked a friend who was stumped for Christmas present ideas, to pick out a biography of a Tudor Queen for me, and this was one of those that she chose. In spite of it being a large book (452 pages including bibliography and index) with fairly small print, I got started on it straight away and was immediately engaged. The book isn't so much a biography as a 'Life & Times of...' and the author, Linda Porter, sets the scene of the time and the circumstances surrounding her birth in 1516, and her parents' marriage.
