I go walking a lot with my niece and nephew and they're always asking what type of tree it is that we're passing. Well I can identify an oak tree, but after that I'm completely useless. Hence the need to buy a small portable book which I could slip into my pocket and pull out at any time should the need arise. That's why I chose the New Holland Concise Tree Guide. It's small and compact, measuring just 5 inches by 3.5 inches by 0.5 inches comes in a plastic wallet to protect it from the rain and even has a pull out comparisons between tree species guide. All for the bargain price of £4.99.
For each different species of tree there is a clear picture of what the tree looks like in full, a picture of it's leaves, berries or fruit and where applicable it's blossom. For each tree there is also a brief description of what it looks like, it's flowers and fruits and finally it's habitat, that is to say where you're likely to find it.
This little guide has got me out of many a sticky situation.
