As a child I was always given annuals for Christmas and just loved them, it is a tradition that I have continued now that I have children of my own. It does not seem that long ago that I was wrapping up Teletubby and Fimbles annuals for my daughter but the years have gone on and now she is fast approaching the tween-years. The dolls and kids tv shows are slowly falling to one side as she becomes more interested in pop culture and this is reflected in the things I am selecting for Christmas this year.
One particular band I have heard a lot about from my daughter recently is Little Mix. The little I know about this band is that they are a fiesty girl band of 4 members from X-Factor. So, when I saw an 2013 Smash hits Little Mix annual in Home and Bargain for £2.99 I picked it up and stashed it away for Christmas. The RRP of this annual is £7.99 but on doing a little bit of research I found out that this annual is only £5.59 on Amazon and other Little Mix annuals are also avaliable at different prices.
All annuals I have seen are hardback and this one is no exception. The cover shows Little Mix in front of a Pink brick wall. At the top in big block letters it says "Smash Hits Annual 2013 Presents Little Mix" underneath the book informs us that the content incudes profiles, posters, quizes, facts, trivia, gossip and more, which it delivers. It also shows that the book is made by Pedigree who are well known for their annuals. There are 80 pages inside the annual and it seems of a good quality. Many of the pages are posters, although I think these would be difficult to remove from the book without ripping. One thing that really impressed me about the annual is the fact that the photos of Little Mix are fairly wholesome. It is a big worry of mine that many of these popstars dress inappropriately, Little Mix however have a nice funky style of dressing that is not overly offensive.
Obvioustly I have not given this book to my daughter yet so i cannot comment on her views. I am sure it will be well loved for a few months until another band catches my daughter eye, or the boy-band phase starts (help!) But for the price I don't think you can go to wrong with this one.
